Correction! It's from Nature Medicine, not Nature Communications.

Knowledge is power and whether you are a pro-, anti-, or have complicated feelings about AI (<- this one), I think it is impossible to ignore it. I want to share a few youtube channels that I feel do a good job of making the risks and/or advancements in AIs approachable.

I love that it is so easy now to just build an application to solve whatever problem you have. Just made it so I can pull a bioRxiv DOI and parse the text/images/etc into a split-view to make reading just a little easier. Mostly inspired by the eLife "side-by-side" article view (which I love).

Falling down the rabbit hole of Bayes-factors vs p-values. It definitely feels a little more rigorous to use BFs! I want to better understand the appropriate standards for practice before committing to go full-Bayes, but I am getting increasingly convinced. doi.org/10.1016/j.to...

The subject of moonlighting/specializing proteins is always fascinating, but complicated. This review from Verger et al. discusses this concept with respect to Mediator doi.org/10.1042/BST2..., and I started to think about this in context of the PAF1 Complex.

Non-canonical subunit functions in multiprotein complexes: insights from the Mediator complex
Abstract. The Mediator complex is a central regulator of RNA polymerase II transcription, integrating signals from transcription factors and coordinating pre-initiation complex assembly. Beyond this c...

⚡New preprint from the lab⚡: A key early checkpoint in gene expression is promoter proximal pausing of RNA polymerase II. For over 20 years, we as field have not been able to recreate pausing under realistic cellular conditions. @robertovn.bsky.social shows that ELOF1 is the missing piece.

How has #evolution shaped Transcription Elongation Factors, important for #GeneExpression? This study by Alex Francette, Karen Arndt &co traces ten core factors to the last eukaryotic common ancestor, and shows they display both conserved and lineage-specific domains. 🧪#AcademicSky plos.io/4eaCUTJ

The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes: 🖌️ Dozens more images with duplications or painting 🖨️ Hundreds of blots that all share the same background (behold slideshow below)

I am very proud to say my work with Karen Arndt, @nclark.bsky.social, and fellow co-first author @aakashg20.bsky.social is finally out in PLOS Bio . We explore the evolutionary history and conservation of core RNAPII transcription elongation factors! Cool stuff! doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3003855

Evolutionary analysis of transcription elongation factors reveals conserved and lineage-specific regulatory domains
Transcription elongation factors associate with RNA Polymerase II to regulate gene expression and coordinate chromatin regulation and RNA processing. This study presents an evolutionary analysis of te...

Thought it was finally time to start up my Lab's BlueSky account! I still feel a bit of awe in even being able to say "my Lab". It is such an honor, privilege, and responsibility to be able to pursue an independent research program immediately after my Ph.D. Hope to stay active on BSKY!
