Michael Hamburger's translation "Decline: Twelve Poems by Georg Trakl", published by The Latin Press, St. Ives, Cornwall (UK), in 1952, is widely considered the first separate book-form publication of Georg Trakl's poetry in English translation.

![Towards Nightfall My Heart
At nightfall one hears the crying of bats, Two black horses frisk in the meadow, The red maple rustles.
To the wanderer the little wayside inn appears.
Glorious new wine and walnuts taste to him, Glorious: to stagger drunk through the dusking
wood.
In its black branches the grievous bells are pealing, Dew-drops fall on his face.
