While you're distracted by a SCOTUS case about inclusive books in schools, the new leader at the IMLS is demanding that state librarians share what their grant money is being used for. I told you this would happen, and here it is.

Email sent from IMLS to state librarians reads: "Pursuant to 20 USC § 9134 and your obligations under the Grant Award Guidance and Statement of Assurances and Certifications, please provide IMLS with the following information:

Whether and how federal taxpayer dollars provided to you under the Grants to States program have been used, or are still being used, to subsidize programs that conflict with government policy as found below:
Executive Order 14151, Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing, and
Executive Order 14253, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, and
Executive Orders 13899 and 14188, Combating Anti-Semitism and Additional Measures To Combat Anti-Semitism, and

The first and most important thing to know about last night's Exec order is that it's intended to break current law and allow people throughout the federal gov look at yr tax returns. Beyond that it's intended to compel states to turn over all their data to the fed govt.

Okay, I finished my numbers for the Republican CR. Relative to FY2024 levels, defense would get a $6 billion increase while non-defense would get a $7 billion cut. And under the hood, it would cut health, education, and labor and shift money to DHS.

I know there have been a fair number of conflicting dates, so, let's organize and settle on February 28th to start. Market Blackout. No buying. No major retailers. No Amazon. For one day, we grind consumerism to a halt. (And with a little planning, this shouldn't be hard.) Let's do it.

The 24 Hour Economic Blackout:
As our first initial act, we turn it off. For one day we show them who really holds the power.

WHEN:
Friday, February 28th from 12:100AM to 11:59PM

WHAT NOT TO DO:
Do not make any purchases.
Do not shop online, or in store.
No Amazon, No Wal-Mart, No Best Buy
Nowhere!
Do not spend money on Fast Food, Gas, Major Retailers, Do not use Credit or Debit Cards for non essential spending.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Only buy essentials of absolute necessity.
(Food, Medicine, Emergency Supplies)
If you must spend, ONLY support small, local, businesses

SPREAD THE MESSAGE:
Talk about it, post about it, and document your actions that day!

WHY THIS MATTERS:
Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line.
If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.
If they don't listen (they won't) we make the next blackout longer (We will).
