15 years in and there's still no place else like the Recurse Center. Courses are rigid and don't provide community. Founder residencies are just about building startups. Working alone is lonely. Only RC provides community, lightweight structure, and freedom to follow your curiosity. @recurse.com

Agents can't design. Here's what my share link feature I just launched looked like to start, versus where it ended. I'm convinced more than ever that UX and design will win more than it ever has. Everyone can ship now, not everyone can make it look and feel right.

I can't stand it anymore. Don't do this... don't do that... from artists trying to give advice without understanding it, or give proper context. It always depends and isn't always generally true. - Just because an artist doesn't know how or why we do grayscale/value, doesn't mean it's bad or wrong.

But you’re aiming for meticulous and excellent quality results, you pretty much want to have full control over the process. This is the audience that is not clicking with AI — myself included.

I think I’ve finally found the reason that some groups are raving about AI while others are deeply skeptical. genAI & agentic AI is a boon for people who need to regularly create large volumes of mediocre content.

How much you play is my favorite measure of success in this industry. You stop looking up to tech execs (who look miserable) or hyper-growth founders (stressed) and start looking up to independent creative minds who shape a space that allows them to play.

If your goal is to reach as many as possible… go cross-platform. But if your goal is to make the best software possible… focus on one. Anything else is compromised.

Easy to make the mistake thinking things are better elsewhere. As you grow, you learn that everywhere is kinda fucked up. The places that look like they have it together—know what they’re doing & how to execute—are just as lost, wasteful, & barely holding center.

I still have my Paper 53 app on iPad at version 4, with the last-ever version that still supports the Pencil SDK 🫣 It's just so much more fun than the Apple Pencil. Wish it could still be in production and that the market wasn't so monopolized with Apple Pencil 🥲
