As institutions retrofitted themselves to house Richard Serra’s massive steel forms, this piece shows how his work transitioned from confrontational public interventions to museum-bound monuments. By @mmogi.bsky.social in @nplusonemag.com buff.ly/DKEQjUA

Perceptive critics noted early on that Serra’s sculpture only made sense in relation to its time and place and gave meaning only to those specific conditions against which it unfolded. Serra insisted…

I don't know why I hadn't heard before about Jan Banning's Bureaucratics project — documenting the material culture of civil administrations in Bolivia, China, France, India, Liberia, Russia, the United States, and Yemen janbanning.com/2022/07/01/b...
Screenshot of the website with a description of the project and a photo of a woman sitting at a large wooden table, looking at a few file folders while, behind her, stand several wooden cabinets with messy mounds of paper on top

New from the University of Georgia Press @ugapress.bsky.social , @stephenlegg11.bsky.social 's Spaces of Anticolonialism explores the anticolonial movements in Delhi before India’s independence, analysing subaltern geographies and hidden spaces through a spatial governmentality lens. bit.ly/LeggSOA
The book cover for 'Spaces of Anticolonialism' by Stephen Legg. The cover features a black-and-white aerial photograph of a densely populated urban area, overlaid with a sepia-toned filter at the top. The title, "Spaces of Anticolonialism," is displayed in large white serif text, with the subtitle "Delhi’s Urban Governmentalities" in smaller uppercase letters below. The author's name, "Stephen Legg," appears in white against a burnt-orange background at the bottom. The top of the cover includes the series title, "Geographies of Justice and Social Transformation 65," in small white uppercase letters.

Throughout my experience in US academia, my hate for abstract writing remains an uncomfortable constant. Don't get me wrong: I understand the algorithm (here is what others say; here is the gap; that's how I will address it; and that'swhy we should care about it), but I have no love for it.
