We need to talk about how insane the Toronto market is treated for Leaf games lol. I’m sorry but the game tonight was blacked out everywhere except Toronto and was on TSN5. 10PM Thursday game against Las fucking Vegas and you got both guys on the broadcast terrified to be even remotely Leaf biased.

What is TSN afraid of? That some Vegas fan in Canada outside Toronto is accidentally gunna pay 300$ for Centre Ice via Rogers/Bell and accidentally stumble upon the Toronto home broadcast and be offended there’s Leaf bias? It’s not like this for Ottawa/MTL games.

Like the pps are 5-1 Vegas and they also have a penalty shot and the refs don’t call a 5 just so they can review it? I’m convinced having a 0 iq is a requirement to officiate in the NHL. Beer league officials wouldn’t miss this - 100% wouldn’t.

It’s just weird because they both sell low on guys they shouldn’t and don’t sell high on guys they should. Guys like Robertson - if you can’t definitely say you’re going to stick with him for a full season. Sell high - being both patient but not leaning into development is hilarious lol.

I haven’t liked OELs results so far but I think ppl need to adjust what a 4 mil defender is. A bottom pair guy that can reasonable move the puck can fit at that price in 2027. Stecher making a million says more about dumb NHL execs tbh.

Yea don’t think you move Hildeby unless you acknowledge AA is playing games this year. Agree but I think the Leafs also have the problem where they don’t sell high on a high potential guy and then just fail to develop them. At least it seems like they made a choice to get assets rather than nothing

That 2nd period was awful but I think you gotta identify a team In game 5 that shows it wants to be more uptempo and play modern hockey having a bad 20 minutes after a 3 goal lead isn’t the same as a team that skated in mud for 60 games have a bad 2nd period.

I’m not saying any of these goalies are bad but I think to get good in this league - you identify that Woll / Stolarz / Hildeby are decent but probably better used to generate other assets. I don’t think any Leaf goalie was truly good enough to go all in on.

I don’t disagree, for example that Ottawa game tonight had the Flyers at 70% XGF and I’m telling you Ottawa walked all over Philly but I’m also telling you that wasn’t anywhere close to what the first period looked like. I mean buying 4 years on a 31 y old goalie who posted strong numbers was worth the 3.75 gamble. If teams offered same package for Woll and Stolarz, I’d say yea move Stolarz. But if Stolarz had no market - it’s a good gamble if he rebounds, he’s still under contract and they’ll get assets for him.

I really don’t think the Leafs are in a bad spot with any of the two year deals. Bobs the only one that’s untradeable but we all know it ends in LTIR. Stolarz deal is fantastic, every deal is a gamble - just stinks he got hurt, took forever to ramp up. But there’s logic in not liking moving Woll.

Leafs never trailed by xGF in the first. Leafs were much better than Vegas - maybe not 3-1 better but by any measurement better than Vegas in the first. Firm believer that proper analysis means you can’t swing too far one way or the other. You’re right about the second period though.

Only thing I can think is Stolarz injury basically made teams scared to offer anything. I love Woll but the likelihood he plays 30/40+ games is like very low. Getting two 3rds for what Woll has consistently shown he is, was unfortunately fair value.
