Check out this terrifying, close-up view of the EF2 that hit Lena, Illinois on 04/17/2017. The tornado may have been rain-wrapped, buts its raw power couldn’t be missed. Video recorded and shared by Kevin Yaun, an area local! #wxsky #tornado

Climate change is pushing Tornado Alley north and east and I don't think there's actual data yet, but my sniffer is telling me that it's also leading to more nighttime tornados, and y'all, none of us are ready for it (night tornadoes are THE worst; I mean, watch this video)

Update! We have confirmed the earlier report of four deaths connected to the Lena tornado earlier was not accurate. So far, no deaths confirmed there or elsewhere!

A gargantuan, nightmare of a tornado hit Easton, Illinois tonight in the pitch black darkness. Only with the lightning and a few power flashes can make out the shape of this beast... May everyone across the midwest remain safe tonight, it's been one hell of a day. 🎥: Ali Wilson #wxsky #tornado

Check out this stunning shot of a photogenic rope tornado that touched down near Webb, Iowa today! An absolutely breathtaking shot of Mother Nature's fury. Props to the photographer, Andrew Anderson, for having the wherewithal to wait for the perfect angle despite standing a few hundred yards away!

a curving rope tornado funnel touches down in the distance, softly lit by a setting sun that makes the actual funnel cloud itself appear pink and orange, despite the end scouring the open field. Trees and an american flag pole blow in the surroundings and the rest of sunset sky appears calm and peaceful

Curious what nearby tornados sounds like? While we can't see the funnel itself, the 03/10/2026 Kankakee twister was close enough to hear its explosive roar. Many compare the sound of a tornado to a freight train or jet engine. What do you think it sounds like? 🎥: Tabitha Boshears #severewx #wxsky
