I’m so excited to present at the CDE Seminar at @yalesph.bsky.social on Tuesday, and meet with friends and colleagues at Yale. And New Haven is really showing off on this sunny Sunday. Have missed it! ysph.yale.edu/event/ysphcd...

🚨 NEW STUDY: Despite falling CA air pollution 1980-2022, relative racial disparities in short-term NO₂ exposure worsened. ➡️ Hispanic/Latino communities faced 3X MORE high-pollution days (>50µg/m³) than White residents in 2020. Paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.jhazmat.2024.134211

Whether developing a new test for malaria, exposing health risks of climate change, or highlighting the impact of stigma on LGBTQ+ population well-being, our faculty advanced science in impactful ways over the past year. Their efforts were recognized with the annual faculty research awards ⬇️

This seems to reflect a wider (and woefully misguided) shift in US health research strategy, away from well-designed studies and careful research questions, towards an attitude that we can get all the answers by just scraping various routine datasets and chucking some rushed analysis at them.

Genes May Help Explain Link Between Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes, Later CVD
A study comparing men and women suggests much of the association arises from genetic propensity to both conditions.

100% agree with data wizard @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social that uncertainty should be more explicitly communicated. In all sciences. Further suggestions; graded shading of error margin representing probability distribution, and an asterisk specifying the assumption of no remaining systematic error.
