I want to implement a new procedure to sample suspended particulate matter I found this: "Water quality — Sampling Part 17: Guidance on sampling of bulk suspended solids". But it is $200! Is there an alternative anyone could recommend? 🧪🌎🦑

The excitement of our acceptance into the Chemistry Laboratory Curriculum Innovators Program to develop a new analytical chemistry lab is really hampered by the fact the program is NSF funded and might not exist soon. 🥽 #ChemSky #AcademicSky

In Environmental Chem today I asked students what chemical contaminant they were the most worried about, we eventually got talking about environmental legislation. I told them we were pulling out of the Climate Accords and the WHO. A student yelled "WHAT" and that about sums up how I feel. 🧪🥽

TikTok was a place for people to learn and connect, not just watch cat videos. As someone who had a community in TT I can tell you that the people on there care about democracy, they are LIVID about so many social issues and don’t just care about losing the app. It is so much more than that.

I just looked up the main active ingredient in both so here is my best guess: Clorox's main active ingredient is a base (NaClO) and Rogaine's main active ingredient minoxidil which can act like an acid and a base. My best guess is that the Clorox oxidized the minoxidil...

Today's Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine was awarded to Katalin Karikó & Drew Weissman for work that enabled the mRNA vaccines used in the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's a reminder of how these vaccines work in this graphic made with the Royal Society of Chemistry: www.compoundchem.com/2020/12/02/r...
Infographic on RNA vaccines. The genetic code of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is made up of RNA. Scientists have isolated the part of this code that contains the instructions for making the virus's spike protein, and this is what is used in RNA vaccines. The synthetic RNA is packed inside lipid nanoparticles to protect it from being broken down by our bodies' enzymes. Our cells follow the RNA instructions to produce the virus spike protein, which then triggers an immune response. RNA is easily made in a lab so these vaccines are quick to develop. The RNA is broken down by normal processes in our cells, so can't cause infection. Some RNA vaccines must be stored at low temperature to keep them stable. There are two different types of RNA vaccine: mRNA vaccines and saRNA vaccines. The structures of mRNA and saRNA vaccines are similar but saRNA can produce copies of itself once it's inside a cell, so can be given in smaller doses.
