I’m using Mondly for that too. Have you heard of Chai and Conversation? They teach Farsi. They have a great podcast, it’s free, very comprehensive. The podcast is on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. She also has a popular Instagram page and does a free 6 week Persian bootcamp every quarter.

I’ve even had some of those people want to reach out via WhatsApp to practice outside Busuu. Granted, the majority of people there just give quick/short answers, but you don’t need too many good people who will be really helpful. 3-5 good people can help a LOT. PS: Here’s my stats. 922/148

When you taught English to immigrants in Australia, were you doing it because you were a right wing extremist having a moral panic? Or was it to help them assimilate and communicate in the new country they had moved to? I would hope and assume the latter.

So,, I have finally learned to stop wasting time on #Duolingo. I haven’t given up on the app entirely, but I am no longer going to do “legendary” on every lesson or any of the side quest things. Just one lesson, after another, forward progress until I finish their whole #Spanish program.

The two main languages I’m focusing on now are Spanish and Persian/Farsi. For #Spanish I use Rocket Languages and #Busuu. For Persian/Farsi I use Pimsleur and Mondly. I consider #Duolingo a game. I have done the most with Spanish, but have also dabbled in French, Japanese, Mandarin, and Russian.

I agree 100%. I think we as a society need to wake up to the fact that sending children to go fight wars on behalf of old corrupt politicians and greedy corporations is something we should stop doing. We should allow children to grow into adulthood rather than instantly/arbitrarily forcing it.

This needs to be compared to the cost of living increases in home prices, rents, electricity, food, interest rates, etc. Those cost increases have dwarfed jobs/income increases. This is extremely misleading. This is literally the definition of propaganda.

#Langsky: Hitting 100 days on Duolingo felt like a big accomplishment. My first #LanguageLearning app. 365 days felt pretty cool. Approaching 500 days now and I can say, the app improves at more advanced levels. Wondering if I will reach 1,000? I think I saw someone with a 2,000+ day streak!

How do people on Bluesky feel about Zuck’s new app Threads? I know many people here see Elon as the source of all things terrible in the world. Is the feeling the same toward Zuck and Threads? I’m pretty neutral, not a fan of either. A platform/community matters more to me than the owner.

I think it depends on what languages you’re wanting to learn and your learning style. I really like… Busuu Pimsleur Rocket Languages Mondly Speakly Beelinguapp Mango Languages Language Transfer and yes, Duolingo PS: You can get Mango Languages for free if you have a library card in the USA.

Busuu is a lot like Duolingo, except it is less like a game and more academic. It doesn’t have any ridiculous nonsense phrases like Duolingo has and it has a really nice community feature where you can practice with native speakers all over the world! It is a great resource to practice and learn.

I started with one called “Fluency Fast Track”. That seemed pretty easy. Then I tried one from the “Most Common Words” collection. I haven’t tried the grammar collection yet. Maybe that’s best? I have no idea how many different types of collections there are. Or if they’re ranked by CEFR level?

#Langsky I just finished day 85 using an app called Speakly. The app is a little confusing at first, but once you figure it out, it is phenomenal. They have vocabulary and grammar lessons, excellent listening exercises with full translations, speaking exercises, and MUSIC! Highly recommend.

While I’m sure there are terrible people behaving badly on here, I personally haven’t seen anyone acting in any way like a Nazi. What I have seen are COUNTLESS people calling anyone who disagrees with them in any way, on any subject… Nazis and Fascists. That isn’t good either. That is harassment.

Another problem is the definition of Nazi. Many people on this platform are defining ANYONE they disagree with in ANY way, on ANY topic… Is a Nazi. First, that is insane. Second, that is hate speech. Third, last but not least, that is the literal definition of authoritarian fascism.

The problem is, when you define everyone who doesn’t agree with you on ANY subject as a Nazi… Nazi has a whole new meaning. It means, I have the right to punch ANYONE I disagree with. It also means, I get to blacklist or deplatform anyone I don’t like… for ANY reason. Even made up ones. = Fascism

Can you define “The Nazi Problem”? I agree there is a “Nazi Problem” on this platform, I just don’t think we agree on what the problem is. I think describing anyone you disagree with as a “Nazi” is a problem… a BIG problem. This behavior is literally the definition of authoritarian fascism.
