Which app are you referring to? I don’t mind if an app is just using their free version as a sample to see how it works. That said, if they run ads like #Duolingo and also limit features, that’s bad. I’m happy to pay for a good app. I usually buy annual or lifetime on #BlackFriday.

Update for 2026: I’m still using each of these apps, but I’ve also added #Memrise. They updated/changed the app and added a language I am studying, so I revisited it and I’m liking it so far. I don’t see it as a main learning tool, but it’s great to supplement with. Video heavy w/ native speakers.

That’s a great video. That’s cool that you have enjoyed Esperanto so much.

There are many great apps out there. I have narrowed my use down to these. For Persian: Pimsleur, Mondly For Spanish: Rocket Languages, Busuu, and Duolingo just for fun. The rest I might occasionally dabble with for variety, but I will complete the courses in those 5. I’m committed. 👍

What made you focus on Esperanto? Where/how do you use it so much? I know a little bit about it. I’ve done a few lessons here/there and then read a little about its history.

I was just reading about your app, sounds interesting. That’s a great name, “Lang Sesh”. How’s it coming along? PS: I have a weird language app addiction. 😂

You’re learning Indonesian, in Esperanto??? That’s an impressive layering! You must be extremely advanced in Esperanto! That’s very interesting.

Thanks 🙏 I haven’t been doing as much daily as I used to, but I’m still keeping the streak going. It’s a good habit. One step forward daily is better than no steps forward.

I would use one of those and then supplement with Busuu. Having more than one source is good. Then as you progress, supplement with music, podcasts, tv, movies, etc. Hope that helps. Good luck 👍

I have used many language learning apps including Busuu and Duolingo, which I still use both daily. That said, after 3+ years using those and many other apps, I can confidently say the 2 best apps are 1. #RocketLanguages 2. #Pimsleur Rocket has like 14 languages available, Pimsleur has 50’ish.

Pimsleur is good too, but Chai and Conversation is by far the best resource available to learn Farsi/Persian. 👍 Good luck.

I’m using Mondly for that too. Have you heard of Chai and Conversation? They teach Farsi. They have a great podcast, it’s free, very comprehensive. The podcast is on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. She also has a popular Instagram page and does a free 6 week Persian bootcamp every quarter.

Busuu sokkal jobb.

Tony Michael @tonymichael.bsky.social · 12/03/2025

Mind a 3 tetszik, különböző okokból. 1. Busuu: A Busuu messze a legjobb (a 3 közül) a nyelvtanuláshoz. Ez a legakadémikusabb és legstrukturáltabb.

I like Mondly. I think it’s good for practice and learning vocabulary. I see it as a good supplemental app, but not good as a main app or only tool to learn a language. I also really appreciate how many languages they offer. I’m learning Persian. There aren’t many apps that offer that language.

I’ve even had some of those people want to reach out via WhatsApp to practice outside Busuu. Granted, the majority of people there just give quick/short answers, but you don’t need too many good people who will be really helpful. 3-5 good people can help a LOT. PS: Here’s my stats. 922/148

I’ve been using Busuu for 2+ years. I’ve found to be the best way to get quality feedback is to find a few good people on there and exchange quality corrections with them 5-10 times, being personal, humor helps. Then, once you have a good “team” you’re golden. Might take a while to find the team.

I did too, they run a really good deal every year around Christmas time. When I got it, it was only $35/year and it stayed at that price. When I finish Spanish I may use it to study another language. It’s too good to give up.

I disagree, I think I understood it perfectly. Have you ever seen someone unaware of what they are doing, while they are doing it? Is it possible you didn’t realize the absurdity of your own virtue signaling when you had previously taught English to immigrants? You made it a right/left issue.

When you taught English to immigrants in Australia, were you doing it because you were a right wing extremist having a moral panic? Or was it to help them assimilate and communicate in the new country they had moved to? I would hope and assume the latter.

Your response appeared to be making the case that people immigrating to a new country should not learn the language and/or culture in their new home and that expectation while reasonable in ANY other country should not exist in the UK or USA. One can learn a new language and maintain their first.

When English speaking people go to foreign countries it’s considered offensive if they refuse to speak the local language or expect others to speak English, rightfully so. I saw this from personal experience. I’ve lived in, worked in, and traveled to 30+ countries. We should ALL be multilingual.

This is an odd post. I fell in love with studying languages in school. I have studied 5 languages and am currently studying 2. I am mixed race background with one parent who was an immigrant and English was his 2nd language. When moving to a new country, learning the language should be the norm.

I think Pimsleur is better than every other language learning program on the market except Rocket. Pimsleur = A Rocket Languages = A++

Rocket Languages and Pimsleur are very similar except Rocket Languages is like Pimsleur on steroids. It is audio based as well, but has many more exercises and practice resources. It’s far better, but… Rocket only has 14 available languages. Pimsleur has like 50. Both are excellent.

I have used Memrise. I think it’s good for practice, but not a good main learning tool. I am currently studying Spanish and Persian. For Spanish I use Rocket Languages and Busuu. For Persian I use Pimsleur and Mondly. I count Duolingo as a game.

I saw a video on YouTube where someone pointed out a study and interviews with Duolingo employees who even said, doing anything other than regular lessons on Duolingo is a complete waste of time. It doesn’t help you learn at all. So, I’m done with all that. Forward motion only 👍 #LanguageLearning

So,, I have finally learned to stop wasting time on #Duolingo. I haven’t given up on the app entirely, but I am no longer going to do “legendary” on every lesson or any of the side quest things. Just one lesson, after another, forward progress until I finish their whole #Spanish program.
My Duolingo stats, 1,023 day streak.
