When my colleagues were testing out my Raspberry Pi OSINT workstations, one of them managed to get one contaminated with Chrome malware. Perfect illustration of why I tell my students to use dedicated hardware that is isolated from their personal equipment/accounts, and then can be easily wiped.

My old Ender 3 Pro 3D printer came with an old 8-bit motherboard, so I decided to upgrade to a BTT SKR Mini E3 V3. Started working on it last night. Didn't quite realize how much hot glue I had to cut and remove, good thing I bought a new hobby scalpel recently.

The stock Creality V1.1.4 motherboard in an Ender 3 Pro, the connectors are secured with generous amounts of hot glue

My son has a bunch of friends over. Five 14-yr old boys crowded in a small room, and when I looked in on them our cat had claimed one of the few seats in the small sofa. One of the boys had to remain standing, but they were still too respectful to even consider moving the cat. The kids are alright.

Last year, I ordered a pair of rainproof utility trousers + heavy duty rainproof gloves from a company that caters primarily to businesses (contractors, industry, etc), since I spend a fair bit of time outdoors with my dog. Now they send me huge catalogues with their full product range regularly.

I've been working on a custom case for a Raspberry Pi with an M.2 HAT+ NVMe board attachment and active cooler (for a research project). I need to maximize cooling so I figured why not attach the NVMe board at a 90° angle to the main RPi board? I couldn't find any designs like that so I made my own.

I took a photo of an old Eee PC 701 I dug out of storage to use as a status monitoring screen for a Raspberry Pi just to show a colleague, but then when I looked at the picture I have to say that the aesthetic was pretty nice. 90% of why I learned Linux in the first place was to achieve this look.

I just pulled off one of the most difficult troubleshooting I've ever done in Linux. I've been struggling for hours to get TrackIR to work in Linux using both linuxtrackx-ir and linuxtrack-qt6-Wayland, but I got stuck on the firmware install part.

I found OpenSCAD when I was looking for a way to design a box for a Raspberry Pi-based design I've been working on. I quite like it! Using code instead of graphical tools has some advantages when it comes to precise spacing and alignment.

The good old fast attack craft Ystad (R 142) is visiting Malmö, so I took my son along to take a closer look. I first saw one of these up close back in 1998 or so, when it was still in active service. I love how cramped they are, and the vertical ladders, like a classic diesel-electric submarine.

Update: it took me more than 8 hours to figure out how to construct a working automatic airlock and a pressurized room with reasonable atmospheric parameters (the O2 is still way too high but the game is pretty forgiving in this regard). Just what I needed to unwind these past few days, wonderful.

I went with another Robert Stone novel, A Flag for Sunrise (1977), and just finished it. Just as good as Dog Soldiers. Very 1970s, just the way I like them. Bleak and introspective, with no heroes but plenty of villains (who rarely have to face justice). The rest are victims or bystanders.
