#BirdOfTheDay #BlueWater A great egret, knee deep in blue water, flashing the mating green across its face as it goes fishing at DeKorte State Park in the Meadowlands, just across the river from #NYC. Great #birding spot. #birds #birdwatching Thx @atlanticbirding.bsky.social for doing the BotD!
A stark white great egret with the green streak of color extending from eyes to beak during breeding season, plunging its beak into a pool of lightly ripples blue water, the splash from it jab frozen in air around its face.

The unmitigated gall is, unfortunately, unsurprising. Only he knows what the “some bad” actually is we’re supposed to accept. Only he knows what the “good” actually is. Only he decides that we should accept the unknown bad. Arrogant. Dangerous. Unacceptable. #AIEthics #ArtificialIntelligence

The question is why does he get to decide that? Last I checked, we live in a democracy. Wait. Nevermind. That's why he gets to decide.

Tom Lynch @tomlynch.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Because that is exactly how he sees it. The world - everyone else - should accept risks and harm of them exercising their freedom to do that they want. Ayn Rand won. We're all along for the ride now. They drive. They decide where we are going & see no reason not to say so.

I love when the male Ruddy’s turn from being, well, ruddy, into the rich brown beauty with that striking blue bill. Awesome breeding transformation.

#BirdOfTheDay #BestBeaks Brown Pelicans in the Florida Keys. Spectacular flying dinosaurs! #birds #birding #birdphotography #naturephotography #birdwatching
Close up of a Brown Pelican looking to the side. Three vertical colors across its head from an auburn brown tuft at the back, a stark white stripe and a brilliant yellow crown, but it is its long, harshly hooked beak, running the length of the vertically cropped photo that most stands out.A Brown Pelican, head tilted completely backwards until it rests on its back, long hooked beak pointing nearly straight up.A Brown Pelican staring straight ahead. Grounded in blown brown body feathers, the long vertical photo shows the extreme length of its beak which rises to a brilliant yellow drown and two knowing eyes. A vivid turquoise and blue ocean is blurred in the background, framing its entire neck and head.

I’ve been in marketing & research for my entire career. No amount of marketing can overcome a bad customer experience. But agencies are kept in business from companies trying. How many marketing impressions are needed to outweigh Zuck knowingly harming children for 15 years (as an example)?

#BirdOfTheDay Since I didn’t exactly follow the definition for #black&white the first time, here is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron flying away at DeKorte State Park in the #Meadowlands #NJ, just across the Hudson River from #NYC. Awesome #birding spot. #birds #birdphotography #NaturePhotography
The black and white feathers on the back and wings of a yellow crowned night heron, flying away over water. The photo was converted from color to black and white to highlight the starkness of the contrasting black/white feathers.

For my #BirdOFTheDay, rather than a #black&white photo I am posting a Black-and-white Warbler taken just last week during the fall migration through #NYC. They are tiny & love to get deep into vines & brush so difficult to capture, but fun trying. #birds #birding #birdphotography #naturephotography

Since bokeh isn’t blur itself, rather, the quality or feeling the blur gives, I thought I’d mention that is pleasing to me about this blur is the way the shadow matches, giving compliment, while the softness heightens the very sharp crispness of the foreground. Your bokeh may take a different shape

Tom Lynch @tomlynch.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
The blur on this is very pleasant. The light is bright, but by leaving it in such a soft blur it makes it much less stark.
120
Tom Lynch @tomlynch.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
That you have blur forwards and behind gives this a lovely depth. You can feel the “peering in” of the viewer.

Tom Lynch @tomlynch.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
This is nice. Really gives a sense of the bird giving a call out into a great space.
000
Tom Lynch @tomlynch.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Thats really nice. The blur allows the complimentary color while not taking attention away from the subject.

#bokehbirds #BirdOfTheDay Northern Cardinal up close, background greenery out of focus. #birds #birdphotography #birding #birdwatching
Brilliant red male northern cardinal bird up close in light and shadow that are at a diagonal across it’s chest. The blur in the background gives a nice bokeh, mostly because of the way the shadow follows the same line, bringing balance while also enhancing the intensity and starkness of this bright red tufted bird.

How is anyone reading sourced stories about all the #AI firms are doing, all that AI models are doing and say “no oversight needed”?

The main question is why is that legal for Meta or others to do? Beside the functional answer of them owning a majority of our government and directly buying elections, what are the legal answers?

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

#BirdOfTheDay is #bord. That’s a new one to me, but I think if a bird’s belly hangs over the sides of the branch it’s sitting on, it likely qualifies. Downy Woodpecker #birds #bird #birder #birding #ornithology #naturephotography
