You know how sheets inherit the Environment in SwiftUI? One would expect it works the same for Preferences: .preference(key:value:) in a sheet can be read using .onPreferenceChange in the top-level View outside the sheet. It doesn't. Preferences stop at the presentation boundary. Documented nowhere.

- … so are you getting the iPhone Duo? - me: It doesn’t really fit my lifestyle. - What’s your lifestyle? - me: not spending 2300+ euro on a iOS phablet that folds. All I really want is a small iPhone Pro with good camera 🥲

You want to know why your thing sucks now? There's a 50/50 chance it is secretly a web browser and site for no good reason instead of a real computer program. I don't know why we've turned many things that should not be web dev into web dev, but here we are.

The iPhone Duo is a Trojan horse to get developers to make better iPad apps And once you've got that you're like 60% of the way to a good Mac app too

Don't rely on horizontalSizeClass. It's not the same thing as available width and it can be misleading.

If you want the top Liquid Glass style you can provide transparent color, for example… 🫠 I don't know why anyone would do that on purpose, but doing this accidentally may turn into a long debugging session full of questions how the hell is this even possible.

I love not being able to build & run an iOS app on my phone, because Apple added a paragraph to some fucking terms of service or whatever legal bullshit and I need to log in to the developer account in Safari first and click agree on that thing before I can continue 😑 (mjtsai plz don't quote me)

How does this work when using nested ForEach statements because of Section (for headers and footers). I assume the element count for inner ForEach can be determined but what about the outer?

re. bricked MBP and DFU revive not working: took me ~8 attempts using different apps, cables, macs and OSes (and 10s of GB downloads) until I tried to manually download 26.3 ipsw instead of the 26.4 automatically downloaded by Finder & Configurator that finally fixed the firmware & made mbp to boot.

2. iOS 26 (or watchOS 26) deleted all of my stored passes and loyalty cards in Wallet #dataloss 3. Most funny bug: the Calendar widget in Smart Stack on watchOS 26.4 keep showing *some* events with wrong start date (usually 12:00 but not always) while it’s correct in complications and the app.

I’ve bitten the bullet and finally “upgraded” to OS 26 last week, thought 1/2 year is enough for Apple to make it stable enough (it’s not). Here’s what I have hit: 1) upgrade from macOS 15 to 26.3 bricked my MBP (firmware failure). DFU revive kept failing.

18 years ago today I released MindNode. I was so anxious I kept checking my email on WAP whenever I left the house, just in case something broke. 😊 It didn’t. Somehow MindNode is still here — independent, no outside funding, shaped by the people who use it. Thank you for 18 years. 🎉 — Markus

In my experience, supporting older versions of macOS is not very convenient. One thing is deployment target, ensuring the app looks and works how it’s supposed to on older oses while adopting ui changes from new oses is completely different thing.

Why this matters: if you add a key command (like CMD+F) to search, it stops working when you have not enough space in the navigation bar.

This works though when navigation bar has enough space to display the full search bar:
