Staying with the in-laws up in rural Dumfries & Galloway, as usual it is pleasantly mild here and drizzling a lot of the time. Without reading the news, one would have no idea that relentless heatwaves/drought continue across much of the UK. Property also very cheap up here. Just saying...

Joy of watching London Marathon is somewhat tempered by thinking of all those extra microfibres leaching into laundry water across the country tonight. I’m as guilty as the next runner but we really need to find a more sustainable option for sportswear. Not that bamboo or merino are perfect either.

Just talking dandelions with guy who helps us mow paths through our field. I meant it from a POV of marvelling at their sheer abundance, ability to self-seed etc. He responded to say he has a chemical that can get rid of most of them overnight if we want. Didn’t even blink. Herein lies the problem.

Lovely day at Cambridge Botanic Garden yday. My first time there. Spectacular cherry blossom but was surprise during such a mild weekend not to see a single butterfly on the wing? Plenty of bumblebees and a few hoverflies, was just expecting butterflies having seen a brimstone and a white at home.
