So I think I finished the administration of Laura's estate this week. Somehow it's hitting me as hard as anything so far. Chapter closed, I suppose.

I met a traveler from an inland state
Who said: Two vast and humming racks of steel
Stand in the cornfield. Near them, on the plain,
Half buried in weed, a broken server face lies,
Its stilled fans, its dulled and blinking lights,
Tell that its builders knew the hype well
Which once ran through these halls, now cold and still,
The hands that fed them and the minds that made:
And on the switchroom wall these words remain:
“My name is Jensen Huang, CEO of CEOs:
Look on my cloud compute, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that great digital ruin, boundless and bare
The autumn fields stretch flat and far away.

Dead rubber against a terrifically strong player. He broke dry, and I cleared all my colours, getting position on my last, but the table only gave me a long cut, with the black on the opposite cushion. Intended to hold for the double, but had to dig down to make sure I stunned out to avoid […]

As I mentioned before, I think I'd seen Bombshell before, but had no memory of it. It's incredibly slick, and undeniably gripping, and Theron and Robbie are tremendous (Kidman is a little too mannered for my taste). But I've been slightly turned round by reading Simran Hans, who points out that […]

Somewhere in Time, if it succeeds at all, does so entirely on the strength of Reeve at his most charming. I'm not sure I've ever seen him other than as Superman, but this makes me want to seek him out elsewhere.

Finally saw 9 to 5, in memory of Parton. Love Coleman in WarGames and Tomlin in West Wing et al, and was initially enjoying it. Once they all got stoned together, though, I turned against it. With the notable exception of Tomlin as Snow White, the rest seemed ham-fisted at best, at worst […]

I have a special hatred in my heart for the combination of poor labelling presented in systems which truncate text despite its fundamental importance. LinkedIn, Atlassian, YouTube and countless others prioritize layout over meaning time and again, and I've had enough.

Never got started after one of the best players in the league potted three off the break, and left one of mine dead. Didn't quite make the touchiest of safeties, and never recovered, although he had to double the black. WWWWL

Cascade WMS failing in v3.0.1
Hello We had a cascaded WMS working in 2.28.5. After upgrade to 3.0.1, it is failing to load in a WMS client (QGIS). The remote WMS loads fine in QGIS direct without Geoserver cascading it. It appears to be timing out after a long delay in QGIS. Hyperdrive is childish at times, but is so relentlessly gentle, I do enjoy it. Frost and Hart are very funny, though I've never bee huge fan of the latter. Definitely worth a watch - it's rather like a very British precursor to Space Force. #talkyDoor!

Drew a really strong player, but he broke dry. I couldn't get the colours I wanted, and ended up in some difficulty. He did clear my covered bag, but was then unlucky to follow through on a plant, leaving him no shot. Ended up potting well, but with no shot on my last colour. Utterly fluked it […]

Rode some luck after a miss against a good player, who was also a little unlucky. Final clearance was nice, for a harder-earned win than it should've been. In the circs, I'll take it. WWW

Slightly wobbly start in our local derby against a middling player. Yipped a touchy shot to the middle, and went in-off on a long back-cut plant. Was given the chance to clear, though - took a long colour, and doubled my last colour for perfect position on the black. Terrific. WW

I'd never seen Hunt for the Wilderpeople before, and on scant experience, I'm not huge Waititi fan. But it was absolutely splendid. With the exception of the daft conspiracy theorist, every performance was note-perfect, and it's lovely to see Neill give a beautiful turn, like his bland Jurassic […]

First match of the season, and didn't feel great in the warm-up. Quickly took control off the break, though, and played well against a weaker player. Survived a snooker or two to land the black in the middle for the win. Really good start. W
