Would it be a case of designers in the 90s building up genre skills as a byproduct of, well, them being employed to make specific genres of game over and over again?

Other way around here, buying the game to bring all the devs back- It also helps that the game is really good, and I want to see the devs make more stuff for it once they have everybody back.

Look up what the word furloughed means - BitReactor ran out of money and could not pay it's people anymore, but nobody got fired. The plan (which is being followed up on) was that revenue from the game would go back towards getting people paid and working again.

I don't think it's laziness, since (succesful) game development is one of those things does not happen if one is 'lazy'. I'd say it's more a matter of interest and allotment of focus in a project.

Feel like this only applies to things that have left a lasting impact which inspired people to create similar things I yearn for a new C&C RTS with FMV cutscenes (main thing I thought missing in Tempest Rising), and nobody has done a mecha anime love letter FPS like SHOGO: M.A.D. at any point since

and expatiating from it that it's a mistake that they're being seen instead of being a blurry 240p idea of the thing they're representing. And I just cannot get onboard with such a dismissive mindset towards the work that was made.

This might be the model hobbyist in me rearing his head out, but 'fucking papercraft' and similar wordings all read like they're being used here to say the models are something lesser

100

Oni @tomasculine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

'fucking papercraft' ??? Again, this reads like contempt for the work. That the detail and the design being seen and appreciated is some mistake that's shouldn't be happening.

Oni @tomasculine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Because you like the artistry and you like the craftmanship. You like the detail and the work that was put into those models. That's what it comes down to.

000

Oni @tomasculine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Yes, and? Do you hate the artifice? Or are you only enamoured with the idea and not the actual thing?

000

Oni @tomasculine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

This reads more like a contemptous take towards the artistry, that the handiwork and the craftmanship should not be seen or percieved or appreciated. People who use pixel smoothing deserve to be shot however.

Unfortunately, a lot of paint/hobby companies in the tabletop space are permissive of AI slop artwork on their products Army Painter, Two Thin Coats, and Citadel have been dignified enough not to stoop that low as far as I know Sucks because AK paints continue to be really good from my experience.

The part I found most funny was the complete side-stepping of Bo Anderson's involvement (Crime Boss is basically his 'fine, I'll make my own Payday!' after he got kicked out of Starbreeze following his almost bankrupting of the company) as just "oh we also had a Mystery Investor"

Oni @tomasculine.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

The game director for Crime Boss did a presentation at a local anime convention over here about the game's development, less-than-ideal release, and subsequent upswing the game was experiencing at the time-

Garbage, often, tries things. Or it fucks things up in interesting ways. Or it has a *concept* you like. Even a "bad" game has its good points. Do I think, for example, Supremacy is ass? Yes. Do I absolutely love its mood, pixelart, and UI? Also yes.
