First book event to play The Coup beforehand
Stage set with table, chairs, mics, at NYU for Against Tech Oligarchy book event, “The Trial of Jeff Bezos,” with the screen behind playing the music video for “Guillotine” by The Coup.

Bonus trivia for those reading alt text: I played Balderdash with Boots Riley at my friend’s Xmas party after Sorry to Bother You came out.

Dang I wish I could tell my mom about all I’ve helped towards after moving here and joining NYC-DSA. I’ll have to just keep living a life I’m proud of and that would make her proud.
me about 4 or 5 years old (? I have no idea) when I had a ton of red hair, being hugged by my mom, who also had red hair, she would have been 28 or 29 years old then in this pictureMy mom’s handwritten inscription in my baby book, from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran:

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you can not visit,
not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backwards nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hands be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.A blue and white Bernie 2020 campaign sign and a red and white “Heal the Sick / Tax the Rich” sign from Democratic Socialists for Medicare for All, on the wall above my mom’s bed in the nursing home where she spent the last 3 years of her life. She requested both of these to put up, because she believed in Bernie and M4A, and was proud of my organizing for them. I took this picture on the day that she passed, December 23, 2019, as a reminder to me that she advocated as she could even when she lost most mobility and as her health declined further.

Some fave pics of organizing camaraderie that I’m in w/ @claireforny.bsky.social — beyond her founding @socialists.nyc Membership Committee, & her electoral prowess before running for Assembly, she’s been a SUPERB comrade who does the right thing. Excited for her & us! clairevaldezforcongress.com
July 2023. Nearly 30 organizers, nearly all of whom I recognize from NYC-DSA, at a UPS Teamsters “practice picket” for a just contract, outside a delivery hub in Queens. We’re holding our fists up ✊ and/or signs. Claire Valdez was there, holding a “Solidarity Delivers the Goods” sign.August 2023. At the NYC-DSA office (you can tell because of the awesome mural by Molly Crabapple), after a Membership Committee meeting, with 21 members including some absolute OG organizers (some of whom have become my friends), a couple of whom were in the UPS picture. Claire was there because she founded the dang committee and was its Coordinator! She would be the first to give snaps to my usual spiel that our fundamental duty as organizers is to develop new organizers, which is what the committee is about.

It might have been before this particular meeting, or the one prior, but Claire told me personally on our way back to the office, after she and I bought some supplies at a local store, that she was going to run for Assembly. In the moment before I may not have considered her as someone professionally wanting to go into politics, but in the moment since it made crystal clear sense, because it was the right thing to challenge the incumbent, and she was the person to bring her organizing know-how to the race and to Albany.October 1, 2023. 18 folks outside Diamond Dogs bar in Astoria, a perennial launch and debrief site for many canvasses. This was the official launch of Councilmember Tiffany Cabán’s re-election campaign, for which I was hired a couple days before as the Field Director.

State Senators Kristen Gonzalez and Mike Gianaris were there, State Assemblymember Jessica Gonzalez Rojas, and Claire was there too, in her capacity as an Assembly candidate, in addition to having been a comrade of and organizer for the Councilmember.October 2024. Me and some of Team Claire with volunteer organizers at a park in Maspeth. This time I’m doing the group selfie thing, with my yellow Claire Valdez for Queens beanie, my red Queens is the Future NYC-DSA shirt, and my red Labor Notes Troublemakers zip hoodie. Claire’s amazing then-campaign manager, future chief of staff, and now political director for her Congressional race Stef is next to me, also with the same beanie but sunglasses. Claire herself is wearing a multi-issue NYC-DAA sweatshirt about Taxing the Rich, Green New Deal, etc.

Claire was there because we were about to canvass for her but more so New York [ballot] Proposal 1 — “Equal Protection of Law Amendment” — as she was running uncontested in the general election. I remember being late because I was coming from teaching self-defense at the LowMan office and they absolutely didn’t need to wait for me but they did and were very kind. It was so nice to get the word out about Claire and a progressive ballot measure, and I was excited that she was going to officially become Assemblymember-Elect pretty soon. Now she’s poised to be Congresswoman-Elect with your help because you read this whole thing https://clairevaldezforcongress.com

She is wearing a blazer with a NY League of Conservation Voters button, and has her water bottle with her (which came up as a question about conservation). The Assemblymember, on her phone, across the platform at the Clinton - Washington Ave subway station… a group of us walked there together after the forum. She looks cool as heck, and Congressional in my opinion. The promo graphic for the “Environmental Candidate Forum” for the Congressional District 7 race. This was hosted tonight (March 10th) at the Pratt Institute by NY League of Conservation Voters, moderated by Jeff Coltin of City & State NY. It was co-sponsored by several other local / aligned organizations with their logos present: Common Cause New York, Transportation Alternatives, Rebuild By Design, Waterfront Alliance, Trust for Public Land, and Riders Alliance.

A clip from the Inauguration video opening where Mayor Mamdani is speaking about New Yorkers, here the part of the caption is […] “Their Drive [their commitment, is what sets our city apart” and it’s striking Starbucks workers and supporters out in front of a store in the Financial District on 11/20/25, including me in the same winter coat and original Zohran merch blue beanie I wore to the ceremony today. You will be visited by 3 spirits
The leads of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946, dir. William Wyler) — Harold Russell as Homer Parrish, Dana Andrews as Fred Derry, and Fredric March as Al Stephenson — WWII veterans from different services and ranks, who meet on a flight, returning home to different social stations and problems.

(This is a beautiful, true ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ film… it swept the Oscars back when that meant something. Wyler directed Roman Holiday, Ben-Hur, The Children’s Hour, The Big Country, The Heiress, The Desperate Hours, and many more… he was a master of genre and this is his best film, you will be better for having sought it out.)

If you see this, repost with your model of positive masculinity
Two stills from the Season 3 finale of Northern Exposure. The top is of the actor Roberts Blossom (aged 68 at the time though perhaps playing much older) as “Ned,” a well-dressed gentleman sitting fireside in a cabin. The bottom is of most of the main cast, gathering around to hear his tale of the founding of their town of Cicely, Alaska at the turn of the 20th Century (in which the actors portray spiritual antecedents of their primary characters’ archetypes). The episode won the Peabody Award and is one of the best episodes of TV ever in my opinion, from my favorite show of all time. I’ll freely admit this episode makes me weep every time from how beautiful it is.

You can finally stream the series on Prime of all places. It’s of course a bit of a spoiler but you can jump ahead to this episode, see how special the show was, and then start from the beginning to experience how it got to there and beyond. The pilot is good and necessary but the show gets going in the second episode.

I know, “I ain’t reading all that…” but this is me reflecting on the eve of an historic election, which is also 3 years *to the day* that I met @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, about 6 weeks after I realized my lifelong dream of living in NYC. In short, I want my @socialists.nyc comrade to be our mayor!
Tomorrow night at this time, I should know if one of the first people I met in NYC after moving here 3 years ago, who:

* greeted me as a new neighbor & comrade & wanted to take a picture with me, then gave me a shout-out in his speech that night
* has offered me tea & food at events
* de-escalated, as if a fellow marshal, a disturbed disruptor at a Tax the Rich rally he spoke at
* sat by my side in 2023 in a policy discussion with the NYC-DSA Healthcare Working Group as a co-sponsor of the New York Health Act, then during lunch outside called me over to chat
* dutifully represents me & thousands of my new community in the World’s Borough
* welcomed & formally recognized the group of organizers I was part of into the legislative chamber in Albany during a #FixTheMTA lobby day
* has taken risks with & gone on hunger strikes for bold legislation seeking to better the lives of the underserved & repressed
* has served as an example of determination & compassion in organizing, from his role as an elected to putting his body on the line & facing arrest in supporting other movements
* has stood up to fascist officials
* has faced vile death threats & discrimination, ever-increasing & desperate attacks on his character
* even with all that, will still greet me with a smile as a friend, fellow organizer, & neighbor in the People’s Republic of Astoria

… will be elected as the (democratic socialist) mayor of the greatest city in the world.

He will have achieved this because there are hundreds more like me who have been honored to even somewhat know him, a 100,000 more who have been inspired to volunteer, & millions more who believe he can deliver on his promises to provide the working class — in the wealthiest city in the wealthiest country in modern history — a life with greater security and dignity. I reflect on this not because I’m special but because I have had the opportunity through joining DSA. A better world truly is possible, and we can win it through organizing.A cropped picture of me (which is my Bluesky icon) from an NYC-DSA post, of me, State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, and now-fellow State Assemblymember Claire Valdez, after a CFU-UAW rally at NYU. It looks like there really was a “Halloween sticker motivation” jump in polling compared to previous days! (I know among the @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social canvass leads, *a bunch* of us [including me] voted today for this.) 🤞 this is all in our favor.
Side-by-side comparison of the cumulative numbers from the Board of Elections at https://vote.nyc/page/early-voting-check-ins of the Day 6 (yesterday) and Day 7 / Halloween (today) check-ins, with my own math added in brackets showing over 15K in Queens, over 25K in Manhattan, and over 30K in Brooklyn voting today, with 5,175 more in the Bronx and 4,630 in Staten Island. So, a jump of 81,861 voters from yesterday to today. (I did a tiny bit of informal impromptu poll site visibility this morning after voting in Astoria, Zohran’s home turf, and people were excited about the Halloween sticker and to vote for Zohran!)

I joke that @demsocialists.bsky.social really stands for Dismantling Social Anxiety. I’m the shyest introvert. Yet I’ve been a field lead for Bernie 2020 & many candidates thereafter. If I can do that, YOU can show up to canvass, get trained, & go with an experienced partner! zohranfornyc.com/gotv
Two photos, both of me leading canvasses. The top pic is for Bernie, in sunny Oakland, CA in 2019, with over 25 people gathered listening to the training, most in t-shirts, some in shorts. The bottom pic is for Zohran, in cold Sunnyside, Queens NY in March 2025, standing on a bench to address a crowd of what became about 60 volunteers, all bundled up and wearing the original Zohran merch, a bright blue beanie. I feel both energetic and tired after I lead. It is always rejuvenating in spirit to know you’re making a difference. Zohran is asking for you to be a part of his victory, and I’m proof that you can be. If you’re not in NY you can phone- or text-bank, if you’re here you can volunteer in many ways — just go to zohranfornyc.com/gotv and let’s win this together!Zohran, from the quoted video, urging people to “sign up for as many canvass and phone bank shifts as possible [at zohranfornyc.com/gotv ]”

You know what to do if you haven’t done it yet or maybe haven’t done it enough — I’m co-leading 10 (ten) more shifts before voting ends, there are many more all across NYC every day — sign up for one! zohranfornyc.com/gotv
A collage of captioned stills from Zohran Mamdani’s interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. In the top picture, Stewart finishes asking Mamdani about the final days of the campaign, “[what do you] got to do to close the deal with New York citizens?” To which Mamdani, in the next two pictures, replies “You know, it is, in many ways, the same thing that got us here, which is canvassing.”

I’m a little over 6’2” AOC is ~ 5’4” (she’s wearing heels here) I think Zohran is like 5’10” - 5’11” I think Assemblymember Claire Valdez — who spoke at the rally last night! — is about the same height as AOC. (I don’t have a picture with Bernie)
A photo of me with AOC in December 2019 after a town hall, and another photo with me and Queens Assemblymembers Zohran Mamdani and Claire Valdez at a CFU-UAW event outside NYU in November 2024.

An ASL interpreter signing “Tax the Rich” repeatedly, responding to the stadium full of people chanting it last night as Governor Hochul spoke… (If you’re in or interested in joining @socialists.nyc, our new Tax the Rich campaign kicks off this Wednesday online! actionnetwork.org/events/tax-t...)

I am the most shy goober ever, but learned to flip the switch. If I can do this (that’s me training), you can come to a canvass for the first time, get trained, partnered up with an experienced canvasser, & listen to your neighbors. YOU can help claim victory & be part of enacting popular policy!
What ended up being a crowd of about 60 volunteers, dressed warmly including the brand new bright blue Zohran beanies we all got, back in early March during petitioning in Queens (all NYC candidates must collect signatures for all races, whether insurgent or incumbent, every time, from AOC on down). We are gathered round for training at a park; I stood on a bench to be better heard.
