It’s a hard year in the world. It’s been a hard year in my personal life. And at work…ouch. Mentorship struggles, faculty struggles, student struggles, and trying amidst it all to keep my integrity, set a high bar, and help students succeed. Learning being nice isn’t always the best thing is HARD.

The modern administrative apparatus of the University imposes on faculty administrative requirements that the University itself cannot faithfully fulfill. This should not be the way things are. If you can't process the forms you make us fill out, we shouldn't be submitting them.

There's a lot of organizations declaring "we're doing this based on legal advice about EOs" going around. As an administrator I always knew that advice is not a mandate. It takes a leader's directive to convert advice to action. Leaders need to be prepared to own that directive AND its consequences.

I was going to respond to the ASM press release after having my coffee, but this is such a better response. ASMs last email was Jan 30 and does not mention taking down IDEAA sites or spotlights on Black, Indigenous, or other underrepresented microbiologists, or anything about DEI. Disappointed.

Well, I missed my #PhD-versary by a couple days, but still can't believe it's been 10 years since my #Defense!! Time flew by. Still thankful I could defend alongside two of my best friends (myself, Bryn, and Leanne all defended within 24 hours!), and that I did it. Most I've ever written #PhDone
