The correct technical term in German for this tiny package of ocean sensors is "Molabutzi".

For the record, my kids were ok with me donating it to science. They were creeped out because I kept forgetting to send it and left it on the side of the fridge. I am pretty sure they might have taken it down on the sly

The Alaska #OceanAcidification Network is your place to learn about marine carbon dioxide removal #mCDR. 🧪🌊🦑 aoan.aoos.org
Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal
(mCDR) - An intro for Alaskans
Examples of proposed mCDR techniques
ALKALINITY ENHANCEMENT
Adding crushed minerals to or removing acid from seawater to help it absorb
more CO₂.
OCEAN FERTILIZATION
Adding nutrients, like iron, to encourage phytoplankton blooms that pull CO₂
from the atmosphere.
SEAWEED FARMING FOR CARBON STORAGE
Growing kelp or seaweed at large scales, then sinking it into deep ocean
areas, or creating durable goods to store the carbon it absorbed.
If successful, mCDR could provide benefits for Alaska’s marine ecosystems and coastal livelihoods. If done
irresponsibly, it could also result in environmental and economic risks and pose complex tradeoffs. There
is a need for coastal Alaskans to have a voice in shaping the emerging field.

Pleased to report the results of my prototype "basement calibration bath" shakedown tests are going really well. Stability within 0.1°C for each set point and bath uniformity to within 0.002°C. Surprised/not surprised that there is a visible bias for the temperature sensors on my apple watch.
Photo of a sports water cooler that is serving as a water bath. Image of a anova sous vide machine in the middle with a thermometer in the water to double check the 9.5 degree celsius reading on the sous vide. Plot of the bath and reference temperatures as I cycle through each temperature setpoint, that looks like a plateau with time. On the bottom is the difference between the reference sensors which is within 0.002 degrees Kelvin.

Things I am asking regarding for quotes for ocean instrumentation: "If I requested a model with a pressure sensor to 100 dbar, why did you include a 10,000 dbar pressure kit?" For the record, I used to work for one of these companies, but not in sales. Is this normal?

This AI-generated map of sensors on an iPhone and Apple Watch is terrible, but never ceases to make me laugh. Heartscope Accelmscope Magnetsoup Barodon and... the Gynoscope. TBH I am a little terrified of the last one.
Image of a iphone and a watch made with AI. On the phone there might be a keypad, but with only 9 buttons. On the watch there is a badly drawn version of a screen with two watch hands and some activity bars. AI made up terrible names for sensors, including the Hyterroscope, acclemscope, the heartoscoppe, the magnetscope., the barodon and the Gynoscope.

One phone, one watch and three different versions of this weekend’s swim trajectory. Phone in my floatie wins for accuracy. Probably because it never went underwater and lost contact with Apple’s location services.

we can predict tides to the centimeter but the water right off the beach where people actually swim is still a blind spot. rip currents, temperature swings and wave energy that no buoy miles offshore is gonna catch. we are working on closing that gap 🌊 #Bobbers
