Was invited to Meta Connect today. Eye rolled my way through all the AI talk to here about the VR "glasses". Hardware looks very nice! Laughed when Mark practically mumbled the $1300 price tag. No talk of FOV either, which make me suspicious.

I've done this in the past (notably to de-kpop-ify my recommendations after my kids went through a phase) but the interface for deleting watch/listen history is sadly not very friendly to bulk operations. 🫤

So, yeah. Unfortunately I got tricked into giving an obvious AI content farm a few dozen listens, and NOW my recommendations are endless fields of non-distinct EDM songs from a variety of fake artists with AI generated anime girls on the cover. And I don't know how to dig myself out of this hole.

After that The Algorithm got real excited and was like "You like this artist? I'm gonna play more stuff by them!" And it played a LOT more. And it all sounded suspiciously similar. Turns out this "artist" puts out hundreds of singles a year. Every one with generic anime girl art.

A cautionary tale: My streaming service shuffled an EDM song into my queue a little while back that I kinda liked so I favorites it and listened several times over the next week. Had a generic anime girl as the album art, but that's not too unusual in that space so whatever.

I'm a white dad that travels with my black son *all the time*. Every once in a while someone in security asks my kids "who are you travelling with today?" And when they point at me and my (white) wife and say "My mom and dad" they wave us through. Never get a second glance otherwise. 🤔

There has been an external contributor doing great work to get WebXR running on Linux/Steam Frame, though! You can follow crbug.com/506004811 for updates. It's not *too* far off, but if the Steam Frame is shipping imminently it won't be ready.

Since the question came up on Mastodon I'll answer here too: The Steam Frame won't have WebXR support in Chromium at launch. The Chrome team hasn't had access to the hardware or headcount available to work on it.

Mostly because it's stuff that nobody in their right mind would try! But it's amazing what turns up when you've got data centers full of LLMs pouring over your code looking for flaw. 🙄 Also ANGLE *does* tend to smooth over a lot of it, but it's not used everywhere quite yet.

A distressing amount of my (and my coworkers) time lately has been spent on "No reasonable program would ever actually try to do this, and in fact Vulkan and Friends forbid it, BUT the GL spec technically allows it AND it blows up real good on driver XYZ, so it's a WebGL problem now."

Is it a porn game? I haven't played it but it's hard to miss on social media. Obviously the animators took special care with some details, but otherwise it seems remarkably tame? Unless everyone is playing on a "streamer friendly" mode.

Saw some of the GTA 6 footage that was released and it's truly remarkable what they're pulling off with the rendering! It's a shame I have zero interest in the game itself. If I'm playing a game where the whole point is to run around causing chaos and making NPCs miserable, I'd rather be a goose.
