Ah, and that would be why there was no mention of the Meta VR glasses FoV yesterday. (From the Tested hands on)
Screenshot of Meta VR glasses that indicates they have a 70 deg horizontal and 66 deg vertical FoV.

Doodling with my kid. He brought home a book about drawing "cute food" (which all seemed to involve animals curling up on/in said food), so have some mouse boba.

Two years later, this probably possessed sign near me has been replaced. I don't know if it's an improvement, though.
A business sign reading "REPULSE BAY" in large red letters. Nothing offers additional context as to what that might mean.

"Dear, why is that child staring at us?" "Shh! That's a Main Character! Ignore it and maybe it'll go away." "How do you know?" "Just look at him! Kid's hat has more texture resolution than the two of us combined! His shield has more polys than half the townsfolk. He. Has. Actual. HAIR!"

I've had this mouse for 21 years, pulling it out of my parts drawer whenever I needed a wired device, and tonight it finally gave out. Pressing [F] to pay respects. 🫡

After a bunch of work on invisible code architecture, my current personal WebGPU project has finally hit the point where I get to mess with the fun graphical techniques. :)

Pleased/concerned that after blindly throwing together a new glTF parser from spare parts in scraps of free time over the course of a couple of weeks, it actually worked the very first time I tried to render something with it!

To be fair, though, it's a view he's kinda been obsessed with since he was a toddler, so I guess I'm not surprised. 😄

My son has recently started flying entire Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 flights, from gate to gate, while exclusively watching out the passenger window next to the wing. Which... okay, sure? Cool party trick?

Environmental Storytelling spotted in my neighborhood on a dog walk.
A white sign with a cartoon image of a dead bird reading "Please do not feed the fake crow" is posted on a lawn. Behind it in the grass lies what one presumes is the fake crow in question. It appears to be pining for the fjords.

I would like to have words with @hankgreen.bsky.social, because this being a wrong answer was just plain mean!
The 7/7/2026 board for the game 4x3. "Rocky", "Grace", and "Adrian" are highlighted. This was not a correct combination.

Yup, Rainbow's End. Though it should be noted that their dastardly plan was "make the books available in digital form" which sounds quaint next to "feed the lying machine so it sounds more convincing."

If I had a nickel for every time a villain from a Disney-adjacent movie plotted to build a freeway through the habitat of a group of non-humans, only to be revealed to be a member of that group in a human suit at the end of the movie, I'd have two nickels. But it's weird that it happened twice.

When Jurassic Park came out I was Tim's age. I was obsessed. It was my favorite movie by a long shot, and Alan Grant was a superhero in my eyes. Now I'm Alan Grant's age, the movie is still one of my favorites, and I'm very sad that my childhood hero is gone. Thanks for the memories, Sam!

Behold my stupidest home automation to date. I am "gently encouraging" my children to be more aware of how much time they are spending in the bathroom by having a door sensor fire an IR blaster to start a sports timer when the door is closed, and stop it when the door opens again. 🤦

LOL. And a third Vulcan enters the chat! Though this does remind me of the single geekiest price of clothing that I own, which you would appreciate:
A well loved hoodie with the Chrome logo and some swirly script on it.A close up of the logo. The script underneath is the Vulcan writing system from Star Trek. Phonetically it says (as closely as the language allows) "Chrome". It was given to members of the Chrome GPU team when the rendering of the browser was transitioned from OpenGL to Vulkan.

I don't know what you're all complaining about. These DLSS 5 screenshots look fine!
A screenshot showing three views of the same scene of a rock surrounded by some grass. The first is labeled "DLSS 4" and shows some slightly blurry foliage and missing details on the rock surface. The second is labeled "DLSS 4.5" and shows improved sharpness on the same scene with better detail on the grass and rocks. The last is labeled "DLSS 5" and all of the grass has been replaced by clover because they're both green ground cover, who's gonna notice the difference? Also the rock has been given smokey eyes and pouty lips to better appeal to 15 year old boys.

Seems our windowsill has become a regular nesting ground for some doves! After hatching a pair of chicks last August they're back with at least two (possibly three?) more!

LMAO. Perfect comedic timing, Axios AI+ dialog.
The article linked in the OP, which begins to talk about how this shows there's demand for an AI-free hedge among investors before being obscured by a dialog to sign up for "Axios AI+"

Took my kids to Super Nintendo World, which is very cute! The graphics dev in me, though, was screaming internally at the fact that a *prerendered* video of Toad at the cafe had super obvious shadow acne!

My son's school sent us a survey, which I made the rookie mistake of opening on my desktop PC.
A fullscreen browser window where a tiny column with itty bitty text occupies the middle 1/9th of the screen. The rest of the window is empty.

Christmas is a great time for discovering new and terrible UX! My son got this Nerf target as a gift. It has an on/off switch AND a power button, and a mode select button... which is timing based. 🤪

Saw something asking what your first graphics card was and went to look up some stats about my dear old Riva TNT. Imagine how crushed I was to discover this: (From www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/ri...)
The Riva TNT was a graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on March 23rd, 1998. Built on the 350 nm process, and based on the NV4 graphics processor, the card supports DirectX 5.0. Since Riva TNT does not support DirectX 11 or DirectX 12, (this next bit is highlighted) it might not be able to run all the latest games. The NV4 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 128 mm² and 7 million transistors. It features 2 pixel shaders and 0 vertex shaders, 2 texture mapping units, and 2 ROPs.

Now that I can compare with the shipped device I can see that the WebXR input profiles asset for the controllers I prepared earlier is offset a bit. I'll get that fixed sometime this week.

My Galaxy XR controllers finally arrived! Hand tracking on the headset is perfectly fine, but it's amazing how much more responsive it feels when you get actual sensors involved. Really wish they had opted to include these in the box with the headset.

Surprised the forehead support fits? I tried to put mine in a Quest 2 case and while it fit nicely I couldn't zip it closed. I did get the Samsung case and it's SO thick. Even the strap is uncomfortably girthy. And it's puffy, like a winter coat. Weird design choices all around.

The screen recording button is in the quick settings menu. I show it in the video. As for the link, it does work but like Rik said the performance is pretty choppy. If it works well on other devices it would be interesting to see what the bottleneck in Chrome is.
