poems used to be like "Fall's big boot / stubs out flowers / as oaks catch fire" but now they're like "at the season theme park where i work as Fall Incarnate i chase down coworkers in flower costumes and beat them" and the first line is like "with a piece of foam / shaped like a French baguette"

Here's one of my favorite poems from my new MS of ekphrastic prose poems (this one appeared in @bulbregion.bsky.social) AND here's a link to the animation that inspired it: 35mm.online/en/vod/anima...

"the focus of poems is language" - someone with a publishing contract, smart, hot "what if someone dressed in rust and loam beat someone with a fake baguette" - me, no publishing contract, tired, wants bread

this is the first workshop of my collective tentatively titled "poetry books are too long now as a result of shifting printing practices and this is a personal insult to me, an easily distracted poet"

IMO just classic c-suite decision-making where their only aesthetic goal is "done-ish"

NOW we’re getting to the GOOD writing advice
SCREEEN SHOT!

this is in part why I don't understand "never think of the reader when writing" folks, thinking about your reader isn't automatically kowtowing, sometimes it's saying "I will ruin you"

yeah im thinkin about the reader. thinkin about pummeling his ass c

also just to be clear “Instagram poet” means “poet who posts poems on Instagram” to me, I am too secure and too covetous of my own time and energy to spend a millisecond thinking about “Instagram poet” as a pejorative

why did autocorrect change honeybadger to homebadger

Todd Dillard @toddedillard.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
this isnt a judgment, lord knows I think everyone should write whatever they want, it just never occurs to me to write about the news unless it’s like “deer found on roof” or “homebadger eats IKEA desk” or something

a weird change in my life is going from getting news on Twitter to the past couple years or so getting news by seeing what all the instagram poets are writing about

one of the odd things about being a poet is that I am always busy with something: prepping workshops, blurbing books, sending feedback to clients, editing friends' work, etc. but my outward facing persona is Deeply Unserious Terminally Online Poet Goofball. But I am serious! mostly

mentioned a poem of mine is getting a lot of likes on instagram to my dad during our weekly call and he asked me to send it, which I did, hours ago, and he has not replied with anything, and I’m just reliving the “Ok….?”s if get in high school when I showed them my work 😂😭
