Amped by all of the bookshop love for kluge on publication day. Like Philip Matthews said in his ReadingRoom review yesterday: ‘No one else in New Zealand is writing books like this.’

Some very kind words from Steve Braunias in his ReadingRoom newsletter today.
Text: There was Thursday night's opening of a new show of artwork by Todd Atticus, best-known for his amazing range of book covers for Te Herenga Waka University Press, eg The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey. You could hear a kind of melody of that playful cover in his pictures on display at The Tasman Building, 16-22 Anzac Ave, downtown Auckland. Each image presented the word ALAS in various poses of aquamarine blue against white. God they're great, and priced between $950-$2400. The exhibition runs till July 25. Go, see, collect.

NZ Labour clearly so chuffed with this headline that it shared it in a graphic. But what does it even mean? It’s the same brand of vacuous sloganeering which has come to characterise much of the Party’s messaging. Worse that it stands as placeholder for any sort of meaningful policy.
