For a long time, I'd accept any LinkedIn invitation. But I noticed a trend in the last 5-ish years, about half the invitations I'd accept were immediately followed by repeated (sometimes daily) messages to try to sell me something. Now I'm much more selective in accepting.

I've spotted several that looked frighteningly realistic, but haven't noticed a hard trend in that direction. But it's just a matter of time before some models are specifically trained for that.

Even the scammers are getting lazy in the age of AI.
