Anecdotally, the public attitude towards prescribed fires has shifted so far in favour that folks are specifically asking for prescribed fires in their neighbourhoods.

This type of scenario is a disaster waiting to happen throughout most of the B.C. Parks system. When I had BC Parks contracts, I was required to create and update emergency plans for each campground every year. But most campgrounds had no requirement for overnight staff on site.
A write up by a camper stuck in Fintry provincial park with zero emergency help during a wildfire.

Hot take: FIFA replaced inconsistent refereeing with inconsistent VAR. I don't want to get into wild internet theories, but I do love how some folks call it VARgentina (alluding to the apparent favouritism Arg gets from VAR)

"Look, the eleventy billion in LNG subsidies only resulted in 17 full time jobs so we don't have the money to pay nurses and teachers. But we magically have enough to bail out luxury condo developers" -Eby, probably. Then wondered why everyone hated the announcement

Eby says condo buy-up is not a bailout, and won't aid City of Vancouver developers
He says the "plot has been lost" over the past week in the absence of details, but there are purchase opportunities south of the Fraser River, as well as on Vancouver Island, and the Okanagan.

That 22k house from 1952 now worth 5.2m? With 3% inflation it would be 200k. With today’s dual incomes, low down payment and longer amortization it might be 650k. That’s $4.5m of capital gains free land value (60k/yr for 74 yr) That’s the power of exclusionary zoning in a high demand location.
Facebook post: In 1952 my parents bought their house for $22,000. It's for sale today for 5.2 million. The good thing is someone has given it some love with the hopes it will not be torn down. The sad thing is I would have to win the lottery to afford it!

It's highly suspect when an airline cancels a flight for "weather", but it's the only cancelled flight at the airport. (Then, coincidentally, they play the "we don't need to provide accommodations because it's out of our control" card).

I'm much happier working for a municipality than I ever was at the Province or the Feds. One reason is, if a reporter has a policy question, they can just talk to staff about it. In contrast it looks impossible to get an answer out of GCPE about the CRI funding.

UPDATE: Canada has announced that it has lost its measles elimination status. This is a direct result of the increase in anti-vax disinformation, which has caused large, sustained outbreaks in the country over the last year.
Canada is currently experiencing a large, multi-jurisdictional outbreak of measles that began in October 2024 with cases in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. While transmission has slowed recently, the outbreak has persisted for over 12 months, primarily within under-vaccinated communities.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has notified the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) that Canada no longer holds measles elimination status. PAHO's Measles and Rubella Elimination Regional Monitoring and Re-Verification Commission reviewed recent epidemiological and laboratory data, confirming sustained transmission of the same measles virus strain in Canada for a period of more than one year.
