Tired, old, a boring tit (Eric). Still a saluter of magpies. LUFC. Anarchist, anti-colonialist sort. Professional obsessions: building / construction safety and sustainability with the occasional soupçon of architectural theory & history

The trouble with this bullshit is that Labour have consistently ruled out working with Greens for more than a decade.

More than anything, I miss those 3 gram headphones which weren’t noise cancelling, didn’t need charging and didn’t fall out of your ears when you were getting off the train

I realise that it’s far from critical in the context of wider issues, but Burnham’s mouth fart on City / Abu Dhabi is one of the stupidest things a Labour politician has ever said.

Andy Burnham has such huge Nick Clegg energy, I’m genuinely amazed that so many people seem to be falling for it Warm rhetoric to keep key supporter groups happy means nowt if they’re still following the same economic policies I’m expecting massive disappointment and anger to land in ~6 months

Unnerving sustainability post of the day: 30yo daughter driving in Oz sent this as she’s never seen bug splat on the front of a car before. When we were kids etc

It’s weird. The reaction I’ve seen from the majority of regular football fans is they hate it. Means getting showered in shit lager anytime there’s a goal and a constant stream of folk pushing past you with pints or going for a piss. No idea who Burnham’s trying to impress.

I tend to look at cultural identity, community and nationality as distinct components. A community can contain multiple cultural identities. Ultimately, I’m not sure that nationality is much more than agreeing which side of the road to drive on and ensuring the bins get emptied.

That and the obligation to say ‘Oo arr dey?’ in a Scouse accent on hearing the name Accrington Stanley, about sums it up.

Exactly: pride has to be predicated on action or agency, surely? Saying you’re proud to be English is like saying you’re proud of having a lower intestine. I’m generally content to have a lower intestine, but it doesn’t seem worthy of celebration.

This is a ludicrous example. It’s the outsourcing of services not the supply of materials and products which is the issue. No one is suggesting that a hospital has to be built by a nationalised contractor or that beds have to be made in a government factory.

It’s not just that - the idea of wealth ‘creation’ is nonsense. You can only acquire wealth by removing it from others.

So, let me get this straight: US, Israel and the Argies are all besties. But the Argies want the Falklands back so they’re sueing an Israeli oil company. Standard Tuesday these days, I guess.

That’s the thing. A constitution is one thing, the method and politics of how it’s interpreted are just as hard to get right.

There’s a permanent ongoing debate in the UK about our lack of a written constitution. At times like these, not having one seems reasonable.

I lived in Brighton or close by for 26 years until a few weeks ago. Attended every failure at the Amex, after the Withdean was a fairly happy hunting ground. I pray my relocation lifts the curse, but you’ve no idea how much I have riding on this personally: failure and I may never recover #LUFC

The hill I will die on: A music festival isn’t a music festival without children | Iman Amrani
Ignore the party poopers who say toddlers spoil the fun. I’ve braved the raves with my twins – and I’ve seen how families add to the magic of events, says writer and producer Iman Amrani
