idk if I think 'queernormative' is a useful descriptor of a setting, necessarily? I think it's better applied to stories, because a story set in the real world with a 100% LGBT cast can read as queernormative even if the world around them is...well, like this

I've got a nice one with a hood I bought from a company up-island, made from sturdy raincoat material was on the pricey side but all the plastic ones you can get online feel super cheap and it rains a lot here, so worth imo

Jesse as a character in Resonant is also... reduced. I thought I liked the direction at first, I've called it 'mad prophet' a couple of times, where she's confidently going off to do something insane, but as the game wears on she becomes more Womanly Frail and In Need of Saving, which I hate

Jesse's character hook in Control was v. strong (pursuer of the supernatural finds the root of it all, cue kid in candy shop routine) while Dylan by contrast is familiar with this world and navigates it by being meek and obedient? I prefer that to potential alternatives, but it's also not good

I'm a weird case where basically all my complaints with it are narrative, there's some good character work happening here in that I like Zoe de Vera, I still like Emily Pope and Langston and most of the other FBC randos, but the core (Dylan, Jesse) is just... not working for me

I like Control Resonant (7.5/10) but it's sufficiently failing to scratch the Control itch that I'll likely go right back to my most recent Control replay right after finishing Resonant, and enjoy it more

the Hiss have been sidelined for a new and unexpected threat (now largely reduced to chaff enemies to kill along with the mold) and the narrative is losing me as Jesse starts to act less like a mad prophet (which I initially liked) and more like a dementia patient (starting to stink of misogyny)

yeah like make no mistake whatever they're cooking up is *weird*, and I like it, but it also feels like the Hiss as a threat have gone unresolved Resonant's hook is literally that Dylan wakes up in the ruins of the Oldest House and finds that the Hiss got out, so it's weird to immediately pivot

yeah that's not really a factor to the same extent - it *is* present, and you will run into various 'threshholds' that each have some kind of strange gimmick, like larger scale versions of the fridge or the duck or whatever, but I'm mostly disappointed at the sidelining of the Hiss

you sure kill a lot of Hiss-altered enemies but they feel like a secondary problem, almost a nuisance, as opposed to the world-swallowing horror they were in the first game, because the story is much more interested in a new threat that didn't exist in the first game

I like Dylan as a lead more than I expected to (though I still think he's much weaker than Jesse) and Jesse as a mad prophet is a fun direction for her character, but broadly speaking the narrative direction is... weird? it's like they got bored of the Hiss as an antagonistic force
