HOLE is a movie that opens with a premise: the united states government is threatening to nuke a black hole in saint louis you then spend most of its runtime watching people talk with such characters as 'puke guy' and 'doctor scientist PHD', it doesn't give you much to work with fun to laugh at

A tier list of mostly-unknown movies, rated from best (baffling, surprising, hidden gem?) to worst (unwatchable). Higher Power is top tier, Resident Evil Degeneration and The Black Hole are mid tier, Ava is low tier, Apocalypse (with Richard Harris) is bottom tier and maybe the worst movie I've seen in my life.

kinda? unless I'm mistaken all four ducts on a harrier are always in operation, they just pivot to different positions to grant different characteristics, and two of the ducts are positioned prior to full compression, rather than siphoning off final thrust

ACACIA VANDER: THE OPERATOR
Recruited by Ozone Silver, who found Vander drunk and mourning following the death of her wife in a DeltaSec security strike. She preyed on Vander’s vulnerable state of mind, offering her a chance at revenge, revenge on DeltaSec, revenge on the pilot that killed her wife, and Vander, empty and hungry for meaning, leaps at the opportunity.
She only realizes what she’s opted to become when it’s too late. Her cooling desire for revenge carries her through invasive surgeries, through rigorous training, and though her initial ‘breaking’ of Meriwether. It’s when she is presented with the object of her revenge, at last, a broken and confused woman whose brain has been left half-fried by combat stimulants, that she begins to realize she’s made a mistake.
Vander speaks to Ozone Silver about retirement. Ozone Silver makes it clear that an Operator only leaves the company in one of two ways: in a casket, or as a memory-stripped husk, to protect company secrets. If she is to remain herself, to any extent, she must learn to cope.
In response to Meriwether’s ‘challenging’ breaking-in period, Meriwether had received a procedure colloquially nicknamed a ‘lobotomy’, a process intended to selectively deaden the intensity of certain emotion. Vander seeks the procedure out for herself.
It leaves her mechanical, mathematical, focused on logistics and process and the calculus of victory and defeat, with undercurrents of emotion that remain, still, but go largely unnoticed, or poorly understood.
She coasts like that, for a while. She looks after her pilots. She brings company assets back intact. She pushes DeltaV off dig sites and refineries and positions of tactical significance. But then one day she is asked to take another leap, to go another bridge further, and this time, she just can’t.

She no longer bears the burden of the things we do together, any doubt or fear long buried beneath a haze of cranial modification and drug. This is the totality of her world. She kills, and is rewarded. Nothing else matters.
I should have been a pilot. A different me waits, somewhere in a sea of possibility; a woman who has lost herself in steel and sunlight, like her. If only I had found that path. If only I had made different choices. Let my body cut the wind. Let my blood feed the engine. Let my nerves tangle among the wires. Let me dissolve into something altogether new, a thing with no concern but angle of attack, airspeed, one circle, two circle, over-G, ammo count. Perhaps, there, none of this could find me. Perhaps the afterburner tide would carry me faster than memory and shame, and I would find, somewhere along the Karman Line, peace.
But this is not the life I have built for myself, or the fate I have earned.
I know, then, with an urgent, vicious certainty: I am not cut out for this work. I think too much. I feel too deeply. I almost completely redid the opening among other things but I may revisit that again because I'm a lot pickier about openings now the most recent rewrite was a rework of part of the reactor reboot sequence, it got super dry, a lot of 'do this' 'ok I'm doing this' I juiced up the tension a bit

I must be losing my mind.
‘I’m here, apologies,’ I reply. ‘Continue.’
‘Okay. Lever on the far left. There’s a button you’ll need to push that unlocks it, bring it all the way down then release.’
I spot the lever very quickly, it’s not an insignificant bit of furniture. There is a little catch keeping it in the upright position, a pair of teeth keeping it held in place. The button next to them, I can only assume it’s the right one, it isn’t labeled.
‘Confirming: unlabeled button?’ I ask.
‘That’s the one. Hold it in, when you release the teeth will close.’
I press it in, and sure enough, the little jaws part, releasing the lever. And with a long, deep breath, I take it, and pull. It puts up resistance, moving slowly, some mechanism ticking and ratcheting inside the console as it gradually descends, inch by inch, before, at last, arriving at its terminus. Something shifts in the console, a weighty ‘thunk’ like a circuit breaker tripping, and the lever starts to rise again of its own accord, as the screens displaying Temple’s face flash to reactor condition readouts, dominated by text that reads, ‘restart cycle initiated’.

I cast a nervous glance over my shoulder, back to that sound I thought I heard—and though the nerve center is now bathed in crimson light, I can still see nothing. Time to get this done.

I take the lever, and I pull. It puts up resistance, some mechanism ticking and ratcheting inside the console as it gradually descends, inch by inch, until, at last, arriving at its terminus.
