Fuck me @channel4news.bsky.social that ADHD mockumentary was a travesty of journalism, science, social science, psychiatry. A horrific mess.

The Channel 4 site says that the "Great ADHD Myth?" mocumentary is available to stream from Tuesday 18th Aug. It is Tuesday 18th Aug at 11:12am yet it is not available to stream. This is making my brain very unhappy indeed. Which is it CH4? Arrghghg.

I thought these new Beatles films were flogging a dead horse after reanimating it so they could flog it again because the first flogging didn't quite extract all the blood. I didn't think they were going to be "Lads on stag do dress-up as various Charlie Mansons and go Benidorm" funny though.
Actors apparently dressed up as The Beatles in terrible wigs and make-up.

My goodness but the Guardian commentariat (Opinion / Comment is Free) are silent about Jason Arday. Strange given the number of articles they ran on the man. I'd expect that from the rightwing shitesheets but not from the Grauniad.

The department believes that it can function effectively and be a pleasant workplace for its members only if all department members regard one another as morally equal. In our view, that is no longer the case.

I love Joan Didion not just because she could write about many things compellingly and evocatively, but also because she could write actual sentences, sentences like this one from the opening of ‘Where I Was From: A Powerful Memoir of California History and the Myth of the American West’.
My
great-great-great-great-great-grand-
mother Elizabeth Scott was born in 1766, grew up on the Virginia and Carolina frontiers, at age sixteen married an eighteen-year-old veteran of the Revolution and the Cherokee expeditions named Benjamin Hardin IV, moved with him into Tennessee and Kentucky and died on still another fron-tier, the Oil Trough Bottom on the south bank of the White River in what is now Arkansas but was then Missouri Territory.

News of the Bourdain biopic reminds me of the chefs I know who are now either really decent people and professionals in that order, and those who are cunts. Set A - read Kitchen Confidential and then evolved with Bourdain. Set B - read White Heat and hero worship Marco Pierre White.

Are there any online 'film clubs' where people show their indie movies, shorts. A media server and indies flicks? There used to be a pub in Sydney on the Parramatta Road that did 'Cult Film' nights. Occasionally, if someone rocked up with a their own effort, it might get shown as the "B Movie".

Once you've handed your MSc dissertation in and moved past the post-submission remorse, archived everything, what are you supposed to do with this gaping chasm? I know, I'll start writing a novel about the death of neo-fascism, the triumph of love and the reality of hope. Or I might make toast.

AI can only “help” with research using already digitised documents and media. Think parish council files, oral histories held by local history societies, time-specific newspapers (think WWI trench newspapers). Niche histories are essential to inform wider questions. AI won’t do the legwork ever.

So, Claude Fable X is going to visit an obscure archive to look for *undigitised* oral histories recorded by a local historian about the dialogue between two farmers over a Ministry of Ag and Fish guidance from 1948 in order to investigate a thesis about food security?

16 years ago I went to Moscow. One night it rained, hard. I turned to head home, there was the Bolshoi Theatre. I took a photo. One day I'd like to revisit Russia. A lot needs to change tho'. Starting with the Putin Gangsters. Until then, power to Ukraine! But, here's that moment of that night.
