For the last several years I've been putting together a list of three of the books I most enjoyed reading for this interesting emerging literary organization called Book DNA, which has been conceived as a competitor to Goodreads. This year’s selection is unusual in that included two nonfiction books and only one novel.

Very excited to be offering three new one-hour illustrated talks for the Vermont Humanities Council Speakers Bureau. I've had a lot of fun putting these together, using my own experiences as a writer, a travel guide, and as a featured lecturer for National Geographic Expeditions to inform the research. If you're associated with any Vermont nonprofit, you can request any of these talks on an ongoing basis beginnng in January, 2027.

I'm a big fan of book clubs, and I'd be happy to join your group remotely if the timing is right, or possibly even in person if you're close enough. Just send me a message here and we can set something up!

Vermont author Tim Weed grounds a fantastical story with smuggled Mesoamerican treasure and a mysterious missing father in the familiar hills of his home state in his new novel, "The Gatepost."

In the novel "The Gatepost," Vermont author Tim Weed takes readers from the hills of southern Vermont into a world of ancient artifacts, missing fathers, and questions about what survives us. The story begins with a mysterious object connected to an ancient civilization but unfolds in a landscape that may feel surprisingly familiar to New England readers. NEPM’s Carrie Healy visited Weed at his home in Putney, Vermont, where he wrote much of the novel. The novel revolves around a displaced object and deals with the modern, high stakes world of smuggling and sequestering ancient treasures.

Especially enjoyed this exclusive interview with Paul Semel, in part because it gave me an excuse to think about influences, and to imagine the casting for the limited TV series of THE GATEPOST! Now all I need is a producer . . .

What’s wrong with us?

Something special about waking up to a well-written front-page feature in a writer's hometown newspaper! “A Gatepost to new & ancient worlds: Tim Weed’s new novel is worth the trip” is a feature & interview with Vermont News & Media’s Bill LeConey that appeared in The Brattleboro Reformer, The Bennington Banner, and Manchester Journal. Much gratitude to Bill or the great coverage and a very fun conversation. Read the complete article here.

I love talking about books, literature, and related topics, so I'm very grateful to these generous radio show/podcast hosts for bringing me on to talk about them in the context of my new novel, The Gatepost. Each of these shows was converted to the podcast format after airing, which means that you can listen to the recordings at any time by clicking on the links or images below! Writer's Voice with Francesca Rheannon, a multi-syndicated public radio show that airs on public radio stations around the country. Such a fun conversation recently with Mikaela Lefrak, the host of Vermont Edition, up at Vermont Public's headquarters in Colchester! We talked about my novel THE GATEPOST, its Vermont setting, the origin of its characters, psilocybin, dreams and hallucinations in fiction, and much more. My gratitude to Mikaela and the show's producer, Jon Ehrens, for their hospitality and professionalism. You can listen to the whole twenty minute interview here.

I’ve been lurking here on Substack for a long while, but I’m finally going to start posting some of my writing. We’ll see how it evolves, but my interests are eclectic and will likely include thoughts on fiction and the writing craft, off-the-beaten track travel experiences, occasional insights on the world of publishing, and a whole range of topics from ancient wisdom to modern science and great art. Posts will be mostly brief, to the point and enjoyable to read. There will probably also be occasional videos and photo essays.

Publishers Weekly is widely regarded as the most influential and essential trade magazine for the book industry, read by publishers, librarians, booksellers, newspaper and magazine editors, and even (ahem!) film industry types. PW reviews have a great deal of influence on which books get noticed, bought, and promoted in the media. Needless to say, I'm on cloud nine to have t…
