PSA: Warby Parker sucks. I thought they were inexpensive and convenient. They are neither. If you call a local store with a basic question, you are sent to a call center who will give your question to the store who will get back to you at some later time. Fuck that. Never using them again.

I stopped watching the US play golf. It’s embarrassing and shameful. There are good people here and great things about our country, but those golf fans show the world how ugly Americans can be. So sad and small.

Since 1979, worker productivity is up 93.7%. Typical worker pay is up only 32.7%. The gains kept flowing, they just stopped flowing to the people generating them. Would a guaranteed income floor give workers enough leverage to close that gap, or is it too structural for UBI alone to fix?
Line chart titled "Output is up. Pay isn't." tracking worker productivity versus typical worker pay, indexed to 100 in 1979, through 2026. The productivity line climbs steadily to 193.7. The typical worker pay line rises much more slowly, reaching only 132.7. Source: Economic Policy Institute, Productivity-Pay Tracker. Basic Income Action logo and handle in the header.

Basic income isn't a handout. It's a fair claim on the wealth we all keep generating together. What would change for you if that claim were guaranteed?
Getting paid at the time doesn't erase the value you created. Infrastructure and institutions compound across generations, each builds on what came before and passes forward more than they were paid for. That surplus is growth. Basic income is an equal and fair claim on that ongoing surplus.

Arlington County Board directs Manager to Discontinue use of Flock Technology: "The County will request the removal of all Flock Safety cameras installed on public property within 14 business days of this announcement" bluevirginia.us/2026/09/wedn...
"[Arlington] County Board directs Manager to Discontinue use of Flock Technology
Published on September 15, 2026

At the open session portion of its meeting on September 15, 2026, the Arlington County Board directed the County Manager to discontinue the use of county-leased Flock Safety technology and to begin the removal of all related equipment. This technology totals 41 Flock Safety cameras; 26 Falcon (License Plate Reader) models and 15 Condor (Point-Tilt-Zoom) models. A public update will be provided at the Board’s upcoming recessed meeting on Tuesday, September 22.

"This decision reflects concerns raised by Arlington residents regarding the use of Flock technology,” said Chair Matt de Ferranti “While Arlington has maintained strong safeguards to prevent the abuse of this technology throughout its use by the County, and there has been no report of misuse to date, the County Board takes seriously our obligation to maintain our community’s trust. The Board, the Manager, and our Public Safety staff will continue to evaluate the tools and technologies we use to ensure they align with the values and expectations of Arlington's residents.”

In connection with this decision, the County will take the following steps:

Removal of Equipment. The County will request the removal of all Flock Safety cameras installed on public property within 14 business days of this announcement, though the process may extend beyond that timeframe as logistics require. Flock cameras installed on private property are not subject to County oversight and are unaffected by this decision.

Data Retention and Disposal. The County has directed that all data not required for active criminal investigations be deleted in accordance with applicable contractual, legal, and operational requirements."

Are you from Arlington? I am and I seriously doubt this is a “feint” as you call it. Do you have some reason to think this is a “feint” other than a general feeling that all local elected officials actually want this type of surveillance?

Like I said, what I would find helpful is a rational plan to get from where we are today to a society where all people who want housing get it. A sudden rent and eviction freeze in the absence of a systemic policy approach does not qualify in my opinion.
