The takeaway from Bo French suggesting Asian students are “foreigners” and the tepid GOP response is that the Trump-era Republican Party is increasingly explicit about its belief that the only good immigrants, and the only real Americans, are white. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
The Afrikaner policy is illuminating, because it proves the catch-22 facing nonwhite immigrants: If you are poor, you are a moocher, and if you are gainfully employed, you are taking a job from a hardworking American. The only way to be a good immigrant is to be white and Christian.

Bo French, who is running for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, has taken this idea a step further, suggesting that the only way to be an American is to be white and Christian.

Yes, there are, of course, a lot of relationships on the Avenue, some in conflict, but a BID would hopefully take all of them and put them in one group aimed at improving conditions there. Of course it would cost the property owners money, so who knows if they're willing.

No, what FAMA does is the street fair. There is also the Historic Fourth Avenue Coalition, which does the Made in Tucson fairs, a direct counterpoint to the street fair.

It was this month, October, in 1959 when Robert Zimmerman started using the stage name Bob Dillon at the Ten o’clock Scholar in Minneapolis. He’d just arrived from Hibbing for his first year at the University of Minnesota and was trying to make a (new) name for himself at the folk clubs of Dinkytown

John Koerner and Bob Dylan jam at the Scholar, circa 1960 Lee remembers Bob as a "cleancut kid," very intense and deter-mined.
"Do you mind if I play?" Bob asked when he wandered into The Scholar sometime in October. "I want to be a folk singer."
Lee chatted with him briefly, learned that Bob had some experience, and told him it was all right to play. "I'm not going to pay you," …
