At some point in the next couple of years a lot of people are going to realise that "we have to keep the press happy and not do anything the press won't like!" is actually quite a bad tactic for a political party in the dying days of neoliberalism.

This was me and my instinct was always to defend him. But owning two buy to let properties is very bad. Clearly bad optics. But it is also akin to have shares in the oil industry. Mothin is financially incentisised to vote in the interests of landlords not tenants. That is not a tenable position.

There is nothing good about getting tenants to pay your mortgages for you. He is financially incetisised to vote in favour of landlords not tenants. That is a massive conflict of interest and totally inappropriate for the Green Party deputy leader.

The divisions on this issue within the Greens on here could not surprise me more. Much like sending kids to private schools, i feel like we on the left all know the harms of landlordism, and can see why this is not a good look?

Feeling quite sad and disappointed this morning both by Mothin and by some of the so called leftists defending landlords.

The media are reporting he owns two buy to let properties. Ex coucil houses. That is literally being a significant contributer to the housing problem. You do know you can sell back to the council. He should and quickly.

TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
It's worse than that. More like you being on the board of Lockhead Martin or being a shareholder as you generate income from being a landlord and are thus incentivised to vote to support landlords (arms manufacturers) rather than tenants.

Currently he is financially incentatised to vote in favour of landlords not tenants. So yes the deputy leader of the green party not being a landlord and actively campaigning for tenants rights and council housing significantly helps people. He should sell up or resign maybe both.

Being a landlord is not a lifestyle choice. It is an exploitative relationship. It is not like driving a car. As it is income generating. It is more like having shares in the oil industry. It incentatives you to vote for policies that benefit landlords not tenants. I will not vote for landlords.

If it turned out more people did have ADHD than previously thought, why would that be so bad?

Because society and its institutions are dominated by and set up for neurotypicals. If we as a society recognise that AdHD and Autism are far more wide spread than we thought then systems might have to change. Potentially undermining neurotypicals dominance and advantage. See racism, ableism, sexism

My heart sank as soon as the Green candidate for Manchester Mayor was announced. Geraldine Coggins is probably a lovely and clever woman. But she represents the exact image problem the Greens have had for years. Too white, too middle class and completely lacking in charisma. What were they thinking?

Not really in retrospect he was clearly rancid at the time as well. I certainly didn't vote him. It was obvious long before 1997 that Labour had abandoned the working classes, and was just going to continue Thatchers neoliberal program.

Not eventually this is literally why I and many people I know never stood for election.

I agree it is definitely moving in that direction. It already isn't a problem for Reform candidates, or Trump. Harder for the left, but stuff like recreational drugs are becoming less scandalous. Ultimately voters have lives and history and owning it well can make you seem more normal and likeable.

TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 22/05/2026
It is a problem of politics that it is difficult for anyone normal to stand as we all have history.Despite a passion for politics I would never seek election. My life would give the media too much. If you can't forsee retweeting conspiracy theories as being a problem you were never a good candidate.

It does beg the question why it didn't occur to this particular candidate to do that or at least raise it with the local party before he was announced. Personally if I was standing for selection I would be guys I am going to some help checking my social media before we announce this.

I tried doing this prior to a US visa application. It was so slow I quickly realised I simply didn't have the time. Choice was give up or delete all my accounts permanently. I gave up.

I think it is literally just slow physical trawling through which is why people who do the vetting miss things. And the media with more time and money find them.

to deliberately split the vote so Burnham loses and Labour implodes. Hence speeding up the replacemnt of Labour by the Greens. But that's a massively high stakes move. With the most likely outcome being a Reform government in 2029.
000
TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 16/05/2026
Run a paper candidate perhaps? There will only be a Mayoral contest if Burnham wins so whatever the Greens do the momentum will be with Burnham and Labour. If Burnham loses then the Greens don't even get to contest the Mayor. I suppose you could make the argument that you stand in Makerfield
100
TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 16/05/2026
If Burnham moves to the right then Labour will continue to decline and The Greens will continue to rise so that would be good for the Greens. It's one seat, unwinnable for the Greens. Concentrate the resources on the Mayor. That would be far more significant than coming 3rd in a bye election.

TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 16/05/2026
Not sure I agree, I think standing potentially does more damage to the Greens than not standing. If Reform win the mantra vote Green get Reform is given more credence. Plus you risk wasting resources on an unwinnable seat and burning out already exhausted activists.

Failed to raise the double standards of media reporting. Exponentially more attention paid to antisemitic attacks than islamaphobic ones. Giving credence to the over reporting of antisemitism is exactly what the zionist lobby want and is a victory for them.

On the surface it's not terrible but there was enough there for the headline Ramsay criticises Polanski. He shouldn't have given them the option of that. Say nothing, or simply say Zak has apologised and move on to talking about racism and islamaphobia.

I don't know if had to. He has hardly said anything publicly since the leadership election so why now. Zak apologised, also a mistake imo, But Ramsay goes further. He does include islamaphobia but it's basically cowtailling to the Zionest lobby that did for the Corbyn project. Only link I can for X,

During the political media onslaught to come there'll be times when we can't think straight for the noise. When this happens, get out of the political bubble into the community and talk to real people. Nothing heals like a good conversation with an actual person.

Why is Keir Starmer utterly incapable of saying no to Donald Trump? Our national security requires us not to be dragged into illegal wars. The Prime Minister is making us less safe. Did we learn nothing from Iraq?

There are people he represented when he was a humans rights lawyer that maintain he gave them very bad advice and wasn't very good. He was never into it even when he was doing it.

It's a hard one to call. If there is a leadership election and someone from the soft left gets on the ballot then they will win. Rayner, Clive Lewis maybe. So Labour together will probably try and avoid an election contest. That means either keeping Starmer in position or having only one candidate.

TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
Yep they got that one massively wrong. My guess is there are quite alot of shy Green voters. As the Greens get more popular this could flatten out. And there was a alot of late switches from Labour to the Greens.

TimSimon🇵🇸 @timsimonh.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
I don't know about that. The problem Wes Streating has is he is all but gaurenteed to loose his seat at the next General Election with just a 528 majority. They could parachute him in to a safer seat but that could also easily backfire.

You give have been given the Greens some of the highest poll ratings of any polster so that would tend to negate your claim of a right wing bias.

I didn't take it like that at all. For me it was an example of how on the left we need listen first and foremost to the communities we claim to champion. In her anecdote it was Palastine, but it could have been anything. The point for me was not to centre the issue but the person we are talking to.

Armed revolution in the west has been impossible for a long time. We have been massively outgunned for decades. That doesn't been revolution is impossible though. It's currently highly unlikely but revolution doesn't have to take the form of armed struggle.

So wait… Is Tel Aviv now a no-go area for Jews? Are Maccabi Tel Aviv antisemitic for attacking Jews and Jewish police? Are Tel Aviv police antisemitic for blocking Jews from a game of football? Would I be antisemitic for criticising Israelis (and therefore all Jews globally) for rioting?

1/ I guess I’m ‘The Good Immigrant’: Been here most of my life now, never claimed benefits, paid taxes, worked for the NHS, taught students, done research for public good, volunteered, spoke English fluently. So why do I feel so alienated and hurt by the government’s anti- immigrant rhetoric?

4/ So I guess I’m not so ‘good’ after all. I don’t pull the ladder up behind me. I don’t use my privilege to bash the unfortunate. I don’t express gratitude for an unjust society that punishes people for their suffering. I don’t shut up. I speak up. I hope you do too.
