I wrote a piece in question 9 of the upcoming Alberta referendum. Is Premier Smith trying to Hamstring the Pacific Link Pipeline? leach.substack.com/p/is-daniell...

Is Danielle Smith looking to hamstring the Pacific Link pipeline?
The constitutional amendment contemplated in Question 9 would do just that

China is doing its best to reduce the demand!! And Trumps war with Iran is helping. I am somewhat optimistic the new west coast pipeline and associated oil sands growth will run headlong into a pattern of demand decline.

Who is "their?" Will TransMountain now be the proponent in partnership with the Alberta government? (with small stakeholder like Pembina etc. advising) Not exactly sure who/where in AbGov the proponent is. Alberta Energy?

For example if engine noise is a big issue, maybe tankers in these waters need to be redesigned as hybrid - electric propulsion for the inshore waters. I fear we are “we tried nothing, it didn’t work, we don’t know what to do”

Stop all … the typical approach would be to understand the characteristics of ship movements that are most disruptive and to then try to mitigate those - maybe it is ship construction, maybe it is time of day, maybe it is ….

Note that this population has, to our knowledge, always been small -- estimates of pre-industrial population range up to about 200. Recent maximum was about 95 in late 1990's with declines since then.

Opinion: Alberta’s referendum turns immigrants into scapegoats for government inaction
Alberta’s infrastructure deficits, overcrowded classrooms, and delayed emergency rooms are the result of political mismanagement.

It would be nice if we had some way to know the he said - she said story here. Was this the 'event' or was this a straw that broke the camel's back? In October 2024 he publicly asked Trudeau to step down. I think maybe there is a track record to question his support.

The much bigger risk ... anti-vaxxers carry enough power to deny these treatments to deserving Canadians. I imagine that would be the case in Alberta today. Health Canada could approve it but Alberta would say "not in my province."

A line graph of temporary residents in Alberta since 2020 showing that, at it's peak, Premier Smith was proposing 10 million Albertans. At it's current low, she is proposing a referendum question on fewer migrants.
