“Syrians created an enormous body of documentation. Survivors, lawyers, investigators built relationships. We learned about universal jurisdiction and how to translate Syrian knowledge into international legal frameworks. Eventually, some of the work did enter courtrooms,” says Mariana Karkoutly.
