Oh thanks! I'll check these out. I eventually want to study the relationships in LLP stands, particularly around the scattered oaks. I'd noticed a huge spike in diversity whenever we took soil samples in Loblolly stands in prox to the oaks, so I figure there may be a similar pattern

so part 1 is the hybrid red oak project part 2 is fire tolerant white oaks like Bur and Post oak Part 3 is planting locally endangered spp such as Q. austrina and Q. georgiana and using the longleaf projects as alternate conservation refugia (they're endangered bc of habitat loss)

ACTUALLY, Bur is one of the spp I'm working with. check out the size of the acorns we get down here in North GA. I'm going to hopefully work with hybridizing Q. rubra x falcata. the general goal is to have oaks ready for co-planting in longleaf restoration projects.

interesting. I've only ever seen them in the Appalachians and in Kentucky Karst under nice mixed oak-hickory stands. a lot of the people here in GA that grow them have them under either natural or artificial canopies

As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
