@chrisraper Chris, there were numbers (40+) of T. fera/magnicornis at a site in Norfolk y'day. I think they were magnicornis on the basis of black front tarsi. I did take one specimen, a female. The frons to eye width ratio is 43% & the bases of all femurs were black. Are you ok with magnicornis?

This nicely marked pompilid wasp is Ceropales maculata and is apparently the first east Norfolk record for 86 years. From my house conservatory this afternoon.

EVENT CANCELLATION: Winterton Dunes tomorrow (Sat 25th July). Due to an injury to one of the walk leaders and the forecast high temperatures with little shade available, this event has been cancelled - apologies for the late notice. There is a nearby walk (Horsey) planned for the following weekend.
A look over Winterton north Dunes, showing a green path with lots of purple heather.

I have updated the @norfolknats.bsky.social species guide to Norfolk Psyllids, which is available to download from the NNNS website here: norfolknaturalists.org.uk/wp/wp-conten... It now covers 60 species (about 3/5 of the British list) so is hopefully of use even for those outside of Norfolk.
The cover of a guide called Psyllids of Norfolk, with a central picture of Psylla alni, a green psyllid, on a green leaf. The NNNS logo is in the top right corner.

Breckland Landscape Recovery getting it just right. Ambitious, but achievable. Complex enough to hit objectives for nature, but straightforward enough to actually be delivered. Enthusiastic, but realistic leadership. It’s conservation Baby Bear’s porridge. Well done them 👏👏

@mothiduk.bsky.social Grateful for your thoughts on these three: Phyllonorycter klemannella? Phyllonorycter platani? and not sure on the third. All in Norwich today. Thanks.

Pleased to see the scarce dune loving spider Marpissa nivoyi at Horsey dunes yesterday. Long known from the North Norfolk coast but just a single record from the East Norfolk dunes until now.

Syntormon metathesis is a small dolichopid fly which was only recognised as British a few years ago, but appears to be sparsely present in fenland habitat in the east of England. It also appears, unusually, to be winter active judging by this female near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk today.

For those dipterists pining for the buzzing of summer wings, here's quite a scarce muscid fly, a coastal sand dune specialist, this one from Winterton Dunes in Norfolk in August - Coenosia minutalis. @ukmuscidae.bsky.social

Aphids aren't everyone's idea of excitement, but this one has cool eyes on stalks. This is Caricosipha paniculatae, found on sedge at Sweetbriar Marshes in Norwich today and no doubt very under-recorded. Thanks to James Emerson for the ID.
