The only reason Scotland was forced to join, what became, the union, is because the corruptible were corrupted by the crown. Ultimately, this is what 'the crown', in the form of Westminster, is defending.

Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

There are no treaties regarding the use of AWS, a particular concern, especially if countries like #Israel have access.
Weapons Systems deciding who lives and who dies are reminiscent of The Terminator films, which, only 40 years ago was science fiction.
AWS: The Tip of The Iceberg
Recent reports of AI systems, which underpin AWS, breaking out of confinement and attacking, e.g., websites, are well known and many.
AI functions at computer processor speeds, learning and adapting at a similar rate, and already pervasive; not limited to battlefields.
Imagine a rogue AI Agent attacks the systems controlling energy and/or water supplies; terrifying.

The average human can survive for three days without water. In hot or dry conditions, dehydration can kill in hours.
By the time it's discovered a rogue AI Agent disabled the water supply, and an effective containment response is formulated, it's feasible at least three days will have passed.

The average human is reasonably fit, strong and well.
What of the very young, very old or the ill and vulnerable? Also, remember, they will be reliant upon a population already weakened by lack of water.

In an average sized country, the death toll can quickly climb into the millions, with no water and a weakened population faced with millions of bodies to deal with, infectious diseases will make light work of the rest if lack of water doesn't kill them first.

The death toll could increase exponentially before any control becomes effective.
Now, imagine the power supply is also attacked.

How convenient would a rogue AI Agent be for malicious actors?
Are you aware of any malicious actors in your country?
Were they at one time believed to be reasonable by some?
How does one combat a broken and corrupt system? By taking part in it? By supporting those who appear reasonable at the time?

2 of 2 #UK #Electricity Supply: The #Scam Keeping You Poor and Dependent - 2026-09-30.
Why deliberately set-back research and development to at least 2040. It will take at least 10 years to build a working commercial reactor. That takes us to 2050, 25 years from now.
https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/uk-must-change-approach-in-order-to-win-fusion-race-says-report/

Remember I wrote earlier of the trillions of pounds already invested in European 'electrification'.
It takes time to recoup such levels of investment and longer to make a good return on those investments. On such large infrastructure projects, the necessary return must be achieved, typically, in about 20 to 25 years.

Are you seeing a pattern yet?

If research into Fusion Reactors had not previously suffered repeated delays due to governmental dithering and procrastination, a commercially viable Fusion Reactor could be operating today.
Of course, that would put abundant, clean, safe, cheap energy in direct competition with the new energy future that has been imposed on us by governments and corporations.
Abundant and cheap just doesn't sound that profitable, does it?

In the meantime, British citizens pay high energy bills, high Standing Charges and VAT plus the cost of a new BOEV, possibly a new Solar Panel installation plus rampant inflation, which is busy devaluing every pound they earn, in essence, another form of taxation.
Add to this the need to use public battery charging infrastructure, costing inflated sums due to electricity generator contracts and the continuing absence of clean, cheap electricity generated by, for example, Fusion Reactors.
And, of course, they are tied-in to the new energy future imposed on them by governments and corporations, instead of enjoying energy independence and self-sufficiency.

#Raspberry #Pi configure #Screen #Blanking See image ALT text for details.
Configure Screen Blanking

You can configure your Raspberry Pi to blank the screen after a period of inactivity.

1) Desktop:
Select the Raspberry Pi icon at the far left of the System Tray.
From the Application Menu, select Preferences > Control Centre
Select the Display tab from the left-hand menu.
Use the toggle to turn Screen Blanking on or off.
Select Close at the bottom right corner of the Control Centre.

2) raspi-config:
On The Terminal, enter:
	sudo raspi-config
Press the Enter key.
At the prompt:
	Enter your password
Press the Enter key.
Using the keyboard, navigate to:
	 2 Display Options > D2 Screen Blanking
Press the Enter key.
At the prompt, Would you like to enable screen blanking?, select Yes
Select <OK>
Select <Finish>

3) consoleblank Kernel Parameter:
Screen Blanking can be configured from the command line using the consoleblank kernel parameter.
Unlike Screen Blanking configured via the Control Centre or raspi-config (which only affects desktop sessions) the consoleblank parameter applies when Raspberry Pi is running with a monitor and keyboard in a text-only terminal session.
Setting consoleblank in the kernel command line allows specification of how long the console waits before turning off the screen.

On The Terminal, enter:
	sudo nano /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt
Press the Enter key.
At the prompt,
	Enter your password

Set the number of seconds before Raspberry Pi OS blanks the console. All parameters must remain on a single line. You can:

Set how many seconds of inactivity before the screen blanks.
For example, adding:
consoleblank=600 blanks the screen after 600 seconds (10 minutes) of inactivity.
	consoleblank=0 never blanks the screen.

Reboot Raspberry Pi for changes to take effect:
On the Terminal, enter:
	sudo reboot
Press the Enter key.

After reboot, the console blanking timeout follows the new setting.

Display the current console blank time (seconds):
On The Terminal, enter:
	cat /sys/module/kernel/parameters/consoleblank

#Couriers #ParcelDelivery #UPS The excessive distribution of pointless #technology #masquerading as customer #service.
I was expecting a parcel delivery today, according to an e-mail from Royal Mail (UK).

I then received a text message from UPS (courier service) informing me my parcel had been dropped-off at premises I did not know. In addition, the tracking number was not the same as that provided by Royal Mail.
I assumed (NEVER ASSUME with these companies) two things:
1) The UPS system had, somehow, sent the text message to the wrong person.
2) My parcel, I discovered having followed the Tracking link, had been dropped-off at premises in a town 318.1 miles away, journey time, 6 hours and 3 minutes.

Yes, I looked-up the address on AA Route Planner, thereby wasting a few more minutes of whatever time this old bugger has left in his mortal coil.

I, foolishly, decided to employ, what transpired to be, the considerable incompetence of UPS's Digital Assistant 'chat' function.

Following the customary “I'm here to solve your problem” message, I entered the tracking number and a BRIEF description of my problem.
The Digital Assistant proceeded to show me options having no bearing on my query, whatsoever.
Having indicated none were appropriate, the Digital Assistant returned to the 1st displayed options list. I was going round in circles.

As someone who spent a good deal of his career working with computers, information structures and website design and development, please explain to me why some programmer thinks it logical to return to the start and repeat the same process when the process has evidently failed? !

The Digital Assistant eventually apologised for not being able to understand my problem, giving the excuse it was still learning.
Still learning!
So you're a bloody trainee who is clearly incompetent, customer facing and should in fact have a competent adult in attendance to supervise and intervene as required.

Continued...Continued...

I eventually entered, into the 'chat' text field, that I wanted to speak with a human.
The Digital Assistant asked me why I wanted to speak with a human.
I replied: Because you are incompetent. It appears to me you have only two brain cells and they are busy engaging their severely limited talents in fighting each other for third place.

The Digital Assistant then presented me with a phone number.

Yeah! I'm making progress at last, after at least 10 minutes of my life I will never get back.

Unfortunately, the programmer (the one I mentioned earlier) configured the text field so it cannot be copied. Consequently (I was using my mobile (cell) phone) I had to launch my phone's keypad and switch, back and forth, between the web page and the keypad hoping not to make a transcribing error.

The phone is ringing! Yes, I know, thank you, yes, I'm a bloody genius.
Never count one's chickens before they're hatched.

A synthetic voice answered the phone, this time female.
Oh! I see. Trying to use psychological manipulation now. You think using a female voice with someone you know you have thoroughly p155ed-off will placate me.

Oh no! It can't be! It's Digital Assistant – The Voice!
I get the same options and complete bollocks I've just spent 10 minutes tolerating from Digital Assistant – Dumb Arse.
After another 10 minutes of circular procrastination I am eventually given the option of speaking with a 'live' assistant.

Yes! Please! For the love a god! A human!

The phone rings. Another synthetic female voice says “Thank you for choosing UPS.”

I didn't bloody choose UPS. You inflicted yourself upon me via text message. I wouldn't choose UPS to give Donald Trump a Chilli Pepper Enema! (What a wonderful proposition).
Anyway, meanwhile, Synthetic Girl is “blah-blah-blah...”our current waiting time to speak with an agent is more than 20 minutes. Alternatively you can visit our website and use our Digital Assistant...”

Continued...Continued...

What?! Digital Assistant – Dumb Arse! Are you kidding me?!

“...or you can download our App...”

I don't want your invasive data-scraping bull-5h1t on my phone, stick that where the Sun doesn't shine.

Then... the dreaded rinky-dinky music plays. Who the hell chooses these mind-numbing dirges?
Why not play something uplifting? Something that might appease the animal now raging in my mind. You know, like Vivaldi's Four Seasons – Spring or perhaps something more apt, Pink Floyd's The Dogs of War:
“They will take and you will give
And you must die so that they may live”

After about 2-3 minutes of dirge and repeated for the next 26 minutes until my call is answered...
“Thank you for choosing UPS. Blah-blah-blah. Alternatively you can visit our website and use our Digital Assistant. Blah-blah-blah. Or you can download our App. Or you can stay on the line and listen to this bloody awful music as we hope you will loose the will to live and hang-up. That way, UPS can claim it gets very few complaints and UPS can sack the remaining humans because they aren't needed.”
You don't know who you're dealing with lass.
“Hello, my name is Jamal, how can I help.”

To cut a 5 minute conversation short. It transpired the parcel is for me; however, the parcel has not been dropped-off 318.1 miles away for my collection. The sender has dropped-off the parcel for UPS to collect. I don't need that detail, just tell me it's despatched.
The agent, rather graciously, acknowledged the use of terminology is confusing and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
I thanked the agent and suggested his superiors be informed of the English language's vocabulary designed to convey ideas clearly and precisely, such as, the parcel has been despatched.
Of course, nothing will be done. It never is. Having the best customer experience is more important.

That's it. Rant over.

Yours faithfully

Cantankerous Old Yorkshire Git

Further to my earlier posts on making #Mead, Some information about making a simple traditional Mead. See the ALT text for the text in the two document images.
Recommended Adjustments to the Simple Mead Recipe

Use 4 lbs of raw honey (runny honey is easier to use than set honey), it really makes a difference.
If possible, avoid supermarket honey. Local honey is best.

If you do not have access to spring (best) or filtered (2nd best) water, tap water will be fine.

Do not add Yeast Nutrient (YN) unless necessary.
Leave your brew for 24 hours.
If fermentation does not start after 24 hours (bubbling), add 1/3rd teaspoon of YN.
If fermentation does not start by the third day, add a further 1/3rd teaspoon of YN.
If fermentation does not start by the fourth day, add a further 1/3rd teaspoon of YN..
If fermentation does not start by the fifth day, the yeast has probably died; add another sachet of pre-activated yeast to the brew (see method below).

Lalvin K1-V1116 yeast is excellent for making Mead.
Before adding the yeast to the brew, pre-activate the yeast. See steps 1 and 2 below for details.

Method for a 1 Gallon Demijohn
 1)	To a cup, add 1 tablespoon of boiling water then add 4 tablespoons of cold water. Stir.
 2)	Add Lalvin K1-V1116 yeast and stir. Leave for about 15 minutes until the yeast looks like thin foam on the surface of the water.
 3)	Add 4 pints of cold water to the Demijohn. Add 2 pints of boiling water. Stir.
 4)	Add all 4 lbs of honey. Stir.
 5)	Add 2 pints of cold water. Stir (Total water = 8 pints = 1 gallon).
 6)	When the yeast is foaming, add to the Demijohn. Stir.
 7)	Seal the Demijohn with the cork and airlock (remember to add water to the airlock).
 8)	Wrap a blanket around the Demijohn to keep it warm and place in a 'room temperature' room.
 9) See comments above re yeast nutrient.

Continued...Recommended Adjustments to the Simple Mead Recipe
...Continued:

Mead is ready to drink after only one month, six months is better but a year will make a huge difference and many years = superb Mead.
You may like to make several gallons of Mead, each gallon one month apart. That way, you always have Mead to drink while some spends time doing some serious maturing. Remember to put the date of brewing on the bottles/Demijohn.
If you leave the Mead in a Demijohn to mature, remove the airlock and use a solid cork.

It is unlikely you will need to use yeast nutrient, as Lalvin K1-V116 yeast is very good.
One point to note about the yeast; it likes to be warm, ideally, not less than 16 Celsius but not too hot. Hence using boiling and cold water to establish a temperature of approximately 20 Celsius with the addition of the honey bringing the temperature down a few more degrees.
The blanket and a warm room help to maintain the temperature until fermentation begins (then you can remove the blanket).

The Mead Maker Rejoices in the Blessings of Their Patience

Govts, & their corporate ‘sponsors’, persuaded us to adopt audio, video & on-line surveillance (mobile (cell) phones) & smart speakers eavesdropping every conversation. Plus nation-wide CCTV, automatic number-plate/facial recognition; all for our safety of course. Cameras on every head everywhere!

Found a lovely village today, #Holywell in #Northumberland, England, between Whitley Bay & Newcastle. A local #pub is the #Milbourne #Arms, just across from an old Manor House. It's a lovely pub, chatty folk, with a great selection of ales, including #Theakstons. #Food is excellent; all home made.

There are so many examples of how the Pharmaceutical industry rips-off the public it's unbelievable. Not to mention the numerous prosecutions in the USA for falsifying research data, making false claims and injuring and killing people. It's outrageous. Image text in the ALT text.

In 1923, Canadian scientists Frederick Banting & Charles Best won the Nobel Prize for the discovery of Insulin.
They decided to give away the patent for free because they wanted Insulin to be available to Diabetics at no charge.
When Banting & Best turned over the patent for production, they agreed to receive only $1 each in compensation.
Since then, drug companies monopolised the Insulin market and now charge Diabetics $500 pr month to survive.
THIS ISN’T HEALTHCARE, THIS IS EXTORTION.
