Been in Toronto for a week and enjoyed the welcoming queerness of it that I always love. Back in the UK now and not even left the airport and I've been misgendered twice. I have 3 days worth of stubble. Also now illegal for me to use public toilets. Fuck me I guess.

Ok, #notallstraights, but what is with the straight couple in the hotel pool, while my kid is swimming and they are practically dry humping in the jacuzzi. I'm fine with PDA, but that's a bit much.

Oh yeah, it's a very professional operation. The cons are huge too! He always gets pretty good guests too - like a group from the same show/film, which is always awesome and big names. This is the one last year that had Laurence Fishburne at his first con, which was awesome.

They've just started doing some in the EU but nothing beyond. They've been only going a few years and started off in the North of England. Run primarily by one guy and his team,the vibe is very much about it being a con for fans not a cash grab like Showmasters (who suck).

Great final panel. Some really thoughtful (but not always PG lol) answers from Michael Ironside - what an icon!

Ending the last day of the con with a trio of panels. Ladies of Supernatural, Buffy and Starship Troopers. Always recommend Monopoly cons, the best I've ever been to. Lots of props, side rooms of stuff and free panels not just photos and autos, and loads of indie vendors!!

I can and will brush it off, just hate the dampener it's put on my day. Also just the frustration of having been on T almost a decade and still the person I see in the mirror is apparently not what others see.

Currently on holiday and just needed to vent after popping into a store and being called "young lady" by the worker there despite having not shaved today. Then went into an indie bookshop to find a whole shelf of "staff recommends" are everything single "Robert Galbraith" book.

She gives horror movie or black mirror vibes - like she's actually a robot/automaton/sold her soul that is perfectly marketed to her specific fanbase but there is nothing behind the eyes.

Anticipating potentially getting hate because fans can be... y'know, fanatic... But the vibe I've always got from Taylor Swift is the same I've always got for Mr Beast. Not saying she isn't talented (unlike Mr Beast) but there's something there that feels like the same kinda charisma vacuum to me.

When he was at NYC for one of the cons my friend Bella asked him if he was aware that it was still there and if he was as worried as we are of what would happen if they took it down - if he would start rapidly ageing. He had a good chuckle about it and agreed he should be concerned lol.

120

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

Yeah exactly that - it had been his first ever con and he was so warily private back then I think he hadn't known what to expect and how to approach it. He's definitely an old hand at it now. He's here with a bunch of other Hobbits lol.

140

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

He's so nice. He was definitely much more relaxed at this one as he's done a few now - Starfury was his first one and he clearly was cautious and unsure what to expect. But I think part of that is because he'd always been quite private and I don't think he's quite so since he came out.

as we weren't allowed to gift at tables. It was one of the stag man plushies I make, themed to Red Dragon. He remembered it and thought it was very good. A very quick but full convo - his queue was HUGE and I had to get my kid to the cosplay masquerade but it was so nice to meet him again.

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

He was very interested to hear that there is such a big trans following of the show, and I did credit that the trans reading of Will (his becoming) is thanks to Dolarhyde (as "becoming" originated with his character). I also asked him whether he got the gift I left at Red Dragon Con for him--

Having a great time at Monopoly Event's Comic Con in Birmingham this weekend! Met Richard Armitage and gifted him a copy of Adapt Evolve Become (2nd ed). Had a quick but nice chat about the trans Fannibal-dom and he was happy to sign something to auction for trans charities. Lovely chap as always!

(to add - I do recognise that some mm romance authors are queer in gender and/or sexuality and so there is nuance to be had, and is another reason why I have no issue with anyone at all writing mm romance. I'd just love if male mm authors got the same attention/opportunities)

010

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Yeah that definitely has an impact. And I have no issue with mm romance as a genre mostly being written by and for women. It's just disheartening to see/attend queer book events where so few of the mm romance authors are male/masc, which feels like a missed opportunity to highlight them.

110

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

I've absolutely no issue with anyone writing mm romance, but I do think it's a huge shame - and very indicative of the world of mm romance - that their voices are often amplified over queer male authors. It's a weird quirk rooted in mm romance readership often being and books targeted toward women.

240

TigerPrawn || DesperatelySeekingCannibals @tigerprawn.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

This isn't a call out really, and certainly not of any specific event. I'm just venting... as it's quite frustrating to have seen so many bookish pride events this month where the vast majority of authors are (mostly) straight (usually) cis women.--
