Painting by Nancy Friedland ‘Can I Tell You About It?’ 2022.
Acrylic on wood panel. Size 20 x 24 in.
A car’s headlights shine brightly in the dark on a rainy night.
The artwork explores themes of darkness and finding light, possibly representing depression and moments of joy.
Friedland is a former photographer who transitioned to painting, incorporating photographic effects into her work.

Pop Bands in the News, day two: The time actual OMD took a detour in their tour bus just to pick up a copy of this headline. Elite level snacking.
Andy McCluskey out off of OMD in a convenience store holding up a packet of Mini Eggs, a multipack of Tunnock’s wafers and the Cumberland News and Star with a story about an overnight robbery at a music store in November 2017, while on their way to a gig in Sheffield. The headline is ORCHESTRAL REMOVERS IN THE DARK.

They had seen a post on this very account and made the detour off the M6 specially, and that makes us smug.

🔔 Call for Papers 🔔 I’m guest editing a Special Issue of Cognitive & Behavioral Practice Cognitive-Behavioral Approaches in Context www.sciencedirect.com/special-issue…
As sociopolitical crises of the past
 decade have made increasingly salient,
 cognitive-behavioral frameworks that
 are well-suited to treating pathology
located within the individual are not
 always well-suited to support work
 with clients whose distress is
 proportionate to the real
 environmental challenges they
 experience. This Special Issue of
 Cognitive & Behavioral Practice focuses
 on the concept of "environmental
pathology," which we use here to refer
 to social, cultural, political, and/or
 environmental circumstances within
 which significant distress or
 impairment are normative and
 proportionate responses. Examples
 include chronic exposure to
 discrimination such as racism,
 misogyny, or transphobia; realistic
 medical health risks such as
 pandemics; insufficient access to
 healthcare, food, or housing; military
violence; or realistic threat orWe are especially interested in
 manuscripts that describe the
 principled extension of evidence-based
 cognitive-behavioral principles to work
 with clients whose clinically significant
 distress or impairment could be
 reasonably described as healthy,
normal, or appropriate to their meso-
 or macro-systemic context. We also
 welcome articles focused on
 community-level interventions
 designed to prevent or reduce
 contextual barriers to mental health
and wellbeing. C&BP is a practitioner-
 oriented journal that publishes
 narrative and systematic reviews,
 research reports that include rich
 clinical descriptions, case series and
 studies, clinical commentaries, and
 treatment development reports. As
 such, articles should emphasize
material likely to be informative to
 clinical practice and supervision, such
 as detailed case descriptions, excerpts
from psychotherapy transcripts, andExample topics include:
 1. Ethical obligations, dilemmas, and responsibilities to consider when navigating
 environmental pathology in clinical practice
 2. Theoretical frameworks or suggested best practices for leveraging evidence-based
principles in the context of environmental pathology, particularly for concerns or
contexts that are not adequately addressed within the existing empirical
 literature.
 3. Global perspectives, such as considerations when translating evidence-based
practices between cultures and/or working with displaced clients or refugees.
 4. Empirical studies, meta-analyses, or intensive case series designs investigating
the efficacy of novel or established interventions for clients presenting with
distress or impairment associated with one or more forms of environmental
 pathology
 5. Primers, introductory papers, or case studies offering cognitive-behavioral
translations of practices from diverse theoretical orientations, cultures, or
epistemologies, supported by an appropriately critical review of relevant
 literatures
 6. Case studies, theoretical frameworks, or literature reviews evaluating diverse
practices for navigating discussions of politically-charged or taboo topics in
 assessment, therapy, or clinical research
 7. Strengths-based approaches, including empirical studies or literature reviews on
topics such as resilience, critical consciousness, neurodiversity, or post-traumatic

The closest he came was the final word of the film: ‘vengeance’ delivered only the way an ex-forces and ex-cop who’d seen his ex-cop dead die in the lane of duty could do it. Was worth watching the whole film for that pay off. Genius. No one else does that like the Statham. Still prefer Crank tho.

If they’d ask id say 1. Don’t remove/minimise usual referral routes 2. Don’t use nhs staff unless adding in extra capacity 3. Don’t replicate what’s there 4. Have clear goals that can be monitored 5. Don’t see diversion from ev based treatment as success 6. Remain open to reflection and feedback

Plus need to stop cutting actual NHS services such as TTAD whilst govt trumpets expansion! Suspect lots of variation in the 6 pilots and all being done differently with various models and levels of funding for NHS staff?
010
Richard Thwaites @thwaites.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
there was some additional money for third sector staffing but not NHS. I think it’s helped some people get access but impaired for others (we have lost 10% referrals which isn’t a good thing I suspect). Think getting comms right & not seeing it as replacement but addition would make them helpful
210
Richard Thwaites @thwaites.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
I agree in theory, but I work in Talking Therapies in an area with one of the 6 pilots. If it was an addition then this would be good, but when services with waiting lists are being cut & time is drawn into these new initiatives (and comms isn’t clear) then they can act as barrier to help
