ICE detention centers planned for Berks and Schuylkill Counties would burden residents and possibly violate state legal requirements, officials say.

Thi Dua Vang legally came to the U.S. two years ago. So when ICE showed up, she thought it must have been a mistake.

A native son explains why attempts to permanently undo the last half-century of societal change are destined to fail because the people who live here just won’t allow it.

Marimar Martinez said she believes that she survived her encounter with Border Patrol agents so she could share her story.

"If the bill becomes law — it'll make it a crime for these counties, any county, any local government to contract with ICE to house ICE detainees," KOAT legal expert John Day said.

"It's something I could do to keep them from stealing my neighbors."
