Best thing abt the first Monday in May is the overlap btw the Pulitzers and the Met Gala. At least 1 person (usually) finds out that they won a Pulitzer while prepping for the gala (Cole Escala last year). If J Bezos takes this from me I will never forgive him. He’s taken so much already

If given a choice between offering extra points on the invoice and, say, making a branded stress ball for one specific title and sending that to your whole indie distro list I think you should consider doing the promo & tracking what stores respond and then revising for bkstore romance day, Xmas etc

I would also offer signed stock for IBD, esp on any book you’re aiming at the EHenry reader. Every IBD our signed stock, staff pick & blind date display sales go through the roof. You can’t influence what gets on staff picks or blind date but you can influence Signed offerings by offering signed.

If I worked for a book publisher I would be looking at my April releases to see what could be pitched to fill this hole. I would also designate 5-10ish titles for bonkers super special invoicing terms (like plus 7% or something nuts) for an indie store promo if I wanted those books out on IBD
