Rip Taylor throwing confetti, as was his wont. His mouth is open wide, as if roaring with joy. The musculature required to smile against the weight of his enormous mustache was a marvel of physiognomy. His sport coat is understated by his standards.

Max Miller of "Tasting History with Max Miller" on Max Miller's YouTube channel @tastinghistory.bsky.social gave me the biggest laugh I've had this week (so far).
Max Miller of the YouTube channel Tasting History with Max Miller stands in his stylish kitchen, presenting a video called "What Italian Soldiers Ate in World War II." Max says, in regard to Italy, "They are the Gen X of the Axis powers." I, as a Gen X person, find this hilarious and apt.

Spotted this green budgie hanging out with some house sparrows a little while ago over by Glenwood and Carmen in the brackish zone between Uptown and Andersonville (Chicago).
Small green bird that seems out of place in the wild. Sitting on a wrought iron fence, not being very scared of me, unlike the house sparrows it was congregating with just before I took the photo.

I'm concerned about the lack of a tail, too. My theory is that Crafty had a little accident with a circular saw.

Man. People say that AI chatbots are sycophantic, but this one let me down.
Disappointing Google AI Overview sadly informing me that my hypothesis that Grand Funk Railroad's song "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home") was inspired by The Odyssey is incorrect. Admittedly, the sources cited are thin, and more often than not, when I follow through to the links, the so-called sources don't actually support the assertion made by the AI. But disappointing nonetheless.

After picking a few used Trek "fotonovels" from the '70s, I decided to collect the series, which included a Motion Picture adaptation they called a "photostory instead." I read it a few weeks ago. It's not as good as the books adapting TOS shows, but it's OK. Omits the transporter tragedy.
Cover of the Star Trek The Motion Picture The Photostory book adaptation, which was like a comic book but with still photos from the movie. It was not as artfully created as the dozen "fotonovels" they published that adapted favorite episodes from the original TV series, like the Tribbles one and the one with the Horta and the one where Spock gets the seven year itch. Those books are a blast. This one is meh by comparison.

Cover of the Killdozer album "Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat." Killozer was a sludgy sort of punk band from Madison, Wisconsin, with such hits as "Knuckles the Dog (Who Helps People)." Also immortalized in the Young Fresh Fellows song, "My Boyfriend's in Killdozer."

Pinky Lee was an inspiration for Pee-wee Herman, but his program went off the air in 1957. I only know about it because my mom was a fan as a little kid.
DVD cover illustration for a collection of the 1950s kids' program The Pinky Lee Show, which provided inspiration to Paul Reubens for his Pee-wee Herman character. The text promises Songs! Dancing! Skits! Animals! Fun! Laughs! And Tom & Jerry, plus other cartoons.

Mixing up Paul Reubens with Pinky Lee? (Granted, an inspiration for Pee-wee but pretty anachronistic.)
DVD box illustration for a collection of the 1950s kids' program The Pinky Lee Show. Depicts a comically dressed man in a garish suit and hat, dancing a jig or possibly running. Maybe skanking. My mother watched this show when she was a little girl. So Trump probably saw it.

Ghost sign at Broadway and Carmen, Chicago. This is the former site of the 5100 Club, where Danny Thomas was discovered.
An old painted advertisement for Howard Galleries in Old English lettering, with the words Antiques and Gifts in a more Old West style, and a phone number in plain block text, is revealed on the side of a building that has had its modern facade removed. More contemporary ads on the windows of the building indicate its current function, which is a Vietnamese restaurant.
