I was just remembering the post-Watergate congressional revival of the 1970s. It did happen. It can happen. But Democrats had to win big in 1974 for it to happen. (I lived in Jerry Ford's home congressional district, and even there the Democrat won for the first time in a zillion years.)

Ah, yes, the D’Souza Twitter days. I miss being informed that Democrats were the pro-slavery party 170 years ago. And that Democrats were the pro-slavery party 170 years ago. And that Democrats were the pro-slavery party 170 years ago. Why weren’t we ever told this before Dinesh exposed the coverup!

We are revising our estimate of potential Senate pickups to two to six seats for Democrats — squarely within the range of the four seats they need to net for a majority.

I think the terror of the flying monkeys was that they were an early, pre-computer example of the Uncanny Valley. Almost human but just enough off to give you the serious creeps.

There's something satisfying about this, in a Schadenfreude kind of way. His magic is failing: his ability to spin a bullshit story out of his head, totally contrary to reality, and have people believe it just because he repeatedly insists it's so. Not this time. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/03/b...
