I just think all classes should have an even number of students and no one should ever be absent

Today's the day I'm going to hand the kids their first writing assignment from the first week of school, as well as their final finished piece of writing. I'm so excited!

📚 Students who read widely and frequently achieve more, regardless of family income. Access to diverse books and time to read matters. Every school library matters. ❤️ #SchoolLibraries #TLsky #Edusky #Literacy #Reading #BooksConnectUs #EduSky #Education #ReadingCounts #DiverseReads
A reading advocacy graphic features a tall stack of diverse young adult and middle grade books beside a large quote about literacy achievement. A teal banner at the top reads “ON READING.” The quote states that students who read widely and frequently are higher achievers than students who read narrowly and rarely, regardless of family income. Citation text at the bottom credits Guthrie, Schafer, and Huang (2001) and *The Joy and Power of Reading* by Scholastic (2018).

A given technique, routine or strategy DOESN'T necessarily work with every class, or with every student. Just saying.

ALSO THIS. I might have to schedule myself 1 or 2 library days each week. Or just live at the library, idk (for once I may not be teaching summer school or otherwise working a job).

"Instead of relying on quick fixes or elaborate engagement tactics, double down on what works: explicit modeling, deliberate practice, and timely, targeted feedback. If we spent more time creating classrooms like that, we wouldn’t need to ask whether our students were engaged. They simply would be."

Identification matters, especially when funding depends on it. But it only works if it leads to meaningful support. Otherwise, we’re focusing more on who qualifies than what students actually need.

People are rightly angry at the murders of Good and Pretti, and the fact they're on video in broad daylight surely contributes, but there's no avoiding how little mention of Keith Porter there is. And ICE has shot or otherwise killed non-citizens, who are no less deserving of attention.

imagine if all that money had gone to teachers instead
Back in 2013, Bill Gates remarked that it would take a decade to know whether education technology really worked. More than ten years and hundreds of billions of dollars later, the answer is increasingly clear. Notes Emily Cherkin, an advocate and fed-up parent: "Imagine if all that money had gone into teachers instead."
