Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 01/10/2026I think that's a nostalgic trap. We have to want the future not pine for the past otherwise we're no better than the populists. 000
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 01/10/2026I thought they mostly thought of it as a stepping stone to full exit? 100
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 01/10/2026I agree, and I think Burnham's framing on the issue suggests he does to. I expect continued and prolonged engagement on this after the next general election all under the heading "what are the options for the UK". 120
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 30/09/2026I use it to write stuff all the time, but very much as an iterative collaboration not an "off you go then" approach. Must emphasise not in legal arguments, not my field. 000
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 30/09/2026Well since we're seeing former mayor's take leadership roles Andy Street? 120
Reposted by Dave HDave H @thinkfoo.uk · 31/12/20251. Accept Brexit has damaged the economy. 2. Act to minimise that damage. 3. Use the next parliament to build a BROAD cross party consensus that rejoining the EU is the best path. 4. The following parliament begins negotiations. 5. Rejoin 5–10 years later. Perhaps 20 years away at best. 191
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 30/09/2026Or maybe he's just realised that the mood has shifted sufficiently to tell the truth to the electorate? 120
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 29/09/2026Thought the job was basically one of competent management, discovered PM is much more than that, was overwhelmed and consequently also failed to do the former which he probably could have done quite well with better political leadership. 060
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 29/09/2026Raising the default pension contribution to 12% and lowering auto enrollment age to 18 would be a start. 010
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 27/09/2026Because of streaming there's literally the entire back catalogue (ok maybe not the entire) of recorded music to listen to. Modern groups and tracks have to be found amongst that, these haven't appeared on any of my playlists or recommends, so this is the first I've heard of them. 000

By that, I mean a country where I would be confident that a thug who livestreamed himself stabbing an RNLI dingy on an active operation would a) Be universally condemned b) Be swiftly arrested, put on trial and if found guilty, face many years in jail. I miss that country. 261490236
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 22/09/2026Sadly, the parties we have don't seem to believe that's a winning formula. 000
Reposted by Dave HJohn Springford @johnspringford.bsky.social · 22/09/2026It's a fair question, worth unpacking. The OBR 4% forecast is on the lower end of the post-Brexit estimates of the costs. That translates to about £40bn in lost tax revenue. 1145
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 22/09/2026Yes, but let's not do detail until we've got general agreement in the UK that being part of the EU is better than not. After all that's how the Brexiteers got us to make the mistake of leaving in the first place. 000
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 22/09/2026Thing is there are plenty of rational arguments to be had against reparations. But this is just bonkers. 000

Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 21/09/2026Why at a time when national governments are weak and increasingly being outplayed but the ultra wealthy would those same ultra wealthy individuals back cynical populist parties that are against international governmental cooperation? It's a mystery. 110
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 21/09/2026I do wonder if trying honesty would be worth a go. No triangulation, no sweetening the pill, just lay it out like it is. 110
Dave H @thinkfoo.uk · 20/09/2026I get almost zero phone spam. The filters work pretty well for me. I think AI is hurting the web, but not for the reason you give, it's hurting it because as with stack overflow it's able to produce instant individualised content that's often better than several hours of searching used to. 100
