This Day in Labor History: September 24, 1969. President Richard Nixon issued the Philadelphia Plan, forcing building trades unions to allow black members into their ranks. Nixon did this to divide the building trades from the Democratic Party and in no small part his cynical move worked!

How would Supreme Court term limits work given the Constitution grants appointments during "good Behavior"? One proposal would divide life appointments into 1) 18-year "active" term & 2) "senior" status for the rest of life. Each president would nominate 2 new active justices per term. Sounds good.

A story at the start of this book makes the obvious case for regulating automated systems. American Airlines created the first computer booking system, embedding bias toward their flights of course. After all CEOs say, “Why bother to build an expensive AI system if you can’t bias it in your favor?”
