i cannot tell you how often i see both being the unspoken parts of conversations but none willing to voice them fully and directly oftentimes. now it’s changing surely and slowly but not quick enough.

this is the same for any other marginalized identities and communities that aren’t part of the table conversation from the start.

by not including, and it should be always by the way, accessibility and disability inclusion has created an unfortunate narrative that they don’t just not belong at the table in question but erases them overall in the process.

we can and do become disabled at any age due to various factors, circumstances, illnesses, etc. incorporating accessibility from the onset resolves the issue of backtracking while pandering the excuse of “time-consuming, expensive, unnecessary” about actually being inclusive.

access should be for everyone, hence accessibility, but disability justice and inclusion should always be on people’s minds—even if they don’t believe it includes them.

each coexist and are defined by the other, but can stand alone in defiance of the world’s injustices as conflict will breed disabling conditions and create inaccessible spaces—accessibility and disability inclusion ARE part of the conversation.

and having to navigate some health concerns and issues for myself and for loved ones has never been harder. i fear the struggles will only continue for a bit longer as we settle into new norms. may they improve better as i’ve yet to see it.

various relationships to re-evaluate and better understand with…even some disappointments reconfirmed after years of suspicions. and sad for those whom been betrayed by such reveals. it’s disheartening but also the start of collective healing.

it’s also been rather reflective—grief. as it gives you a lot to think about and to dwell upon. and the conclusions i’ve come to have been bittersweet, infuriating and disheartening.

of course, there’s always room for words in action, yet when faced with an obstacle of an indomitable force we have to make a choice. there’s been a lot of choices and a lot of calls to choose, whether claiming to be neutral or not—it is still a choice made, passively or not, subconsciously or not.

as much as we want to change minds and hearts that are full of fear and hate…we cannot help them if they do not wish to be helped. it’s a sad realization to grasp over the years but need to accept.

there’s a difference of curating how your energy is better spent fighting the battles you need to do + those you can win rather than attempt to scale an iron brick wall of willful ignorance, various -isms and bigotry. the impasse to attempt crossing will only find you halfway across and never fully.

i’ve been fortunate but so often i and other disabled ppl aren’t in these spaces. accessibility doesn’t just mean addressing the barriers within an environment but the attitudes that go along with it, and it’s not tackled as much i feel—unlearning ableism and audism is vital.

it’s also why i’ve been a bit more quiet, and perhaps withdrawn, as have a lot on my mind and personal essay pieces i want to write about. lived experiences and lived expertises are important when combating willful ignorance or even not knowing nor understanding.

and is especially notable when wanting to see everyone succeed and uplift each other—a far cry of how ableist and toxic the work environment was prior. survival mode for many means safety, and it really does take some time to get out of that mindset and realize it’s possible.

there’s something healing when surrounded by work colleagues who are supportive, accommodating and offer flexibility re disabilities—it provides accessibility but also human decency towards one another. been reflecting on the last 6yrs and a half prior these last several months.

it’s also why one’s interpretation of the horror genre is so important and different from each other. but there’s also a sense of camaraderie with understanding or re-examining the narrative and perspective we’re shown when it comes to the horror in of itself.

the more i dwell in horror or rather the concept of why one is drawn to horror is understanding and relatability in a sense. the horror of realizing something about either yourself or the world around you. the horror of knowing not everything will ever be known or understood.
