The Wellbeing Website is going to be quiet for a while. I’m not going anywhere, just working on some new things and will be back soon. It will be great to connect again.

Create a strategy - Think about what you’re going to do to change things. What can you start doing every day to make changes. Put it on paper. I really hope that helps.

Focus on your story - How do you see yourself in the world? Is it positively, or negatively. We forget we’re the authors of our own stories. That we can change them.

Settle your state - Before we do anything, we need to find calm. Help the body and mind settle down. Give yourself space to start your recovery.

If you’re not feeling good. If something has happened and you need to bounce back, there are three important steps you can consider. I’ll explain them in this thread.

This is how we used to advertise alcohol. In future, will we look back and see we made the same mistake with social media? (To be very clear, this is a historical advert that does not reflect modern medical advice)

The Blackbird of Annoyance has replaced the Bluebird of Happiness in my life
A black bird stands on some cracked concrete, looking upwards at camera. The angle, its stance and its plumage - white eyes are the only let-up from the black - makes the bird look thoroughly pissed off

Force, fear or invitation — The Wellbeing Website
This post explores how we keep being influenced, by force, fear or invitation. We'll take a close look at what's happening and then explore how you could set the right example.

A close look at how we can be influenced, by force, fear or invitation. I think this is so important. The pressure, threats and attempts to mislead others are clearly damaging people’s mental health and wellbeing, both online and in the real world.

A book that really changed things for me was Autopilot, by Andrew Smart. He explains how doing nothing, like simply watching clouds, helps the mind join the dots behind the scenes. Gives us more chance of suddenly getting a great idea.

Keep those positive memories close. Remind yourself of the good times. Then notice how you feel afterwards.

Took part in a very interesting neurological study this week. Three hours of unpleasant electric shocks in my feet though. I really hope this can help other people.

You should have a listen to live version on the deluxe My Songs (from Paris). A great new riff from Dominic Miller.

“Focus is about saying no” - Steve jobs This is an Interesting one. Saying no doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It's about doing what it takes to focus on what’s important. Avoiding distractions to get things done. Protecting your time. I think it helps to be polite, firm and focussed.

When we achieve things, we feel better. I always consider productivity and planning a key component of mental health and wellbeing. You can find a lot more on The Wellbeing Website.

The next step is to create a plan. Sit down and carefully work out what you need to do to get there. Turn that vision into reality. That should help you go beyond daydreaming.

Finally, the flip-side of that. What do I have? What can help me get there? Again, with the guitar you may have some books to help you. You may also have that old guitar you stored away and meant to play one day.

Martin Robinson @thewellbeingwebsite.com · 23/06/2025
You should then ask yourself another important question. What’s missing? What do I need to get that thing done? In the case of the guitar, do you need any equipment?
100 0
Martin Robinson @thewellbeingwebsite.com · 23/06/2025
You then start asking some questions. The first is, what would I need to do between now and then to make it happen? That should be a good start.

Are you rocking out on an electric guitar, or picking on an acoustic? Are you singing while you play chords or shredding solos? This should give you a good idea of your intention. What done looks like.

Imagine yourself doing the thing you want to do in 6 months time. For example, if you want to start playing the guitar imagine yourself playing one when you’ve learned. What does it look like?
